UNreasonable Accommodations

Looks/sounds like a typo, right?  Wrong.  A number of thoughts have been bouncing around my head lately (most of them smart, I trust!), and I've kept returning to the line of thinking that while we should continue to make great efforts in reasonable accomodations, it's time to take a stand (both at work and in life) against UNreasonable accommodations.

Foreclosure?  It's OK.  We understand- The Man kept you down and you lost your job.  It's tough to get another one.  Here's a free pass.

Short-sale?  It's OK.  We feel your pain- The Man is keeping the economy down.  It's "the bank" or "the appraiser" or "that neighbor with the high grass" that has my place worth less than it should.  I'll give you a pass and risk you stiffing my owner, too- if you do some looking around, see that rent prices have dropped and that your rent shouldn't be as high as it is.  UNreasonable accommodations.

Eviction?  See above.  It's OK- looks like your rent was too danged high!  UNreasonable accommodations.

Repo?  Pay for a car?  Heck!  I don't care if you've paid for the roof over your head- why should I care if you've paid for that sweet ride of yours?  UNreasonable accommodations.

Bad credit?  Come on, now.  "Bad" is such a tough word.  Let's say that your credit is "impaired" and in need of "repair".  I know that everybody has bad credit!  UNreasonable accommodations.

Bankruptcy?  Watch it- you said "bank"!  I don't care about any danged bankruptcy you've got on your credit report!  You're doing good with that Capital One card you got in the mail right after that, right?  Well, we've got ourselves a great application- you can't file for another 7 years!  UNreasonable accommodations.

Prisons too crowded?  Head to the doors and open those bad boys up!  If you're just doing drugs or selling them, its your lucky day.  Unless you're violent, just wait your turn in the rotation and we'll get you out of here quick!  Never mind that your drug-dealing self will be poisoning more of America's future- we just need to get you out on the streets again.  UNreasonable accommodations.

Getting food stamps?  I know, I know...it's embarassing.  Not so much that you'll get up off the couch and work- but just enough so that we need to have debit cards for you.  We don't want you feeling sad when you get the evil eye from the guy in line behind you that's paying for your groceries.  UNreasonable accommodations.

I could go on... but you get the picture, America- we get more of what we tolerate.  The only way to clamp down on the bad behavior and bad choices of others that affects the general good is for us to (get this crazy idea) make them less comfortable.  It's time to take a stand against UNreasonable accommodations.
