Back in 1812 Red Hook and Rhinebeck parted ways and Red Hook became an independent town.  There are currently plans underway to celebrate the Red Hook Bicentennial in  2012.

The Red Hook Bicentennial Celebration Committee is busy putting activities together and preparing for the kickoff scheduled  for Hardscrabble Day on September 24, 2011.

Red Hook Bicentennial Key Chain

Here is a partial list of what to expect between 2011-2012

  • Fundraising activities to fund the celebration
  • Barn Dance
  • Commemorative magazine
  • Musical at Bard College
  • House Tours
  • Special Commemorative Quilt
  • Puppets
  • Community Day
  • Red Hook illustrated
  • Oral History
  • Website dedicated to Bicentennial

It is going to be fun learning about what life was like back then.  If you have old photos or documents pertaining to Red Hook this may be informationRed Hook Bicentennial Key Chain that could be included.  Have you lived in Red Hook for 70, 80 or even a 100 years? If so, your stories would be a great addition to the oral history.

Today, I saw the official key chain (a fundrasing item for the Bicentennial Celebration). It is a hook that is also a bottle opener. You, too, could own one for a small contribution of $5.00 If you would like more information, send me an email.

Jennifer, I like those hooks - they sure would make great open house handouts if you could also put your name on there somehow!!!

Jennifer sounds like a lot of activity for the 200 year celebration.  Those key chains look like they could be a little dangerous if they turn the wrong way when you are taking them out of your pocket ......... LOL

Julie you are so right.

George yes. they are putting a lot of work into it.  The hook does not have a sharp edge so I think you would be okay ;)

Elizabeth the key chain is also a bottle opener so it a great gift during these hot summer day.

Rebecca knowing the people involved in the planning I am sure it will be lots of  fun and a learning experience for many.
