This isn't related to real estate, that will be another blog...but this is very personal to us all.
A Sign of Our Times...
There are many ways the public is worked over whether by phone or on the internet by intruders trying to obtain personal information by fraudulant means.
Recently I was alerted about an individual receiving a call from someone stating that he was with the Riverside County Jury in Riverside, CA. He stated that the individual had been sent a summons for jury duty and had not shown up for service at the court house where requested. The individual claimed they had never received a summons. He said that they needed to go to the court house and check in or could have a phone interview to see if they could be dismissed. When the phone interview began to be too intrusive with personal questions this individual stopped and asked for a phone number and name. And when the individual refused to give anymore personal information and said they would call the County Jury number the caller hung up.
After calling the County office there was no one there with the name and they said they do not call individuals in this manner. This is a scam and is fraudulent.
With so many people hurting financially we will probably see even more and more fraudulent infiltration into our personal lives. Beware of Anyone seeking personal information whether over the phone or the internet even if they are disguising themself as a Public Agency Figure - making you feel that if you do not cooperate you could be in trouble.
Be careful and safe...protect yourself!
