I thought that I had a pretty good handle on all my paper work in my home office.

NOT !

How does all this paper work accumulate? I will admit I have been pretty busy the last month or so.... But still I thought I had a handle on all of my filing. I am pretty sure I am going to fill the new 2-drawer filing cabinet I just purchased. I should have gone with the 4-drawer cabinet.

It seems I just look a way for a few minutes and the pile get larger and larger....

Do I dare throw any of it away...NO! You never know when I will have to locate that one piece that I decided I did not need.

As discussed here on Active Rain,save every little piece; you never know when you will need it. So newbies save it all but try to file it as you go or you'll find yourself like me with a mound about to cascade down around my head.

I scan everything and save a copy on my pc and another in the cloud.

Sussie, I feel like this sometimes. I tend to work on the kitchen table, rather than go upstairs to the office, so my papers stack up all over the place. I have to force myself to take everything upstairs once a week to file it properly. Love the picture!

Scan it, email it to several of your email accounts, store it in the cloud.

Then toss it in the Recycle Bin (shred sensitive material).

In Florida, with very few exceptions, a "Legible Copy" or Electronic Signature will pass Statutory Muster.

Susie, I was recently named in a suite..YUK. Fortunately I had everything in that file that protected me. This is so important in light of the litigious society were in. I agree with the above comments as well..Scan it and electronically store it.

Richard and Fred: that is a great idea! I think I will do that too! I am going to have to get a external drive and save there too!

Rose: I just work in my office at home.... my OCD daughter throws everything else away!

John: I hope that never happens to me. But I know it does happen. I will save my stuff!

How did you get a photo of my office?! All joking aside, my office was a complete mess until I got a digital receipt scanner than scans business cards, receipts and documents. Life is GOOD now!

Yes it is nice to have a clean desk...but mine looks almost as bad as the one in the photo. I am going to scan everything and put a copy in the cloud and one on an external and the file copy. I know it is over kill. But if anyone ever breaks into my home and steal my computers and external drive well then I will still have a semi file copy and the cloud copy.

This will be a lot of work to get all this done.
