Why do I need Office Space at My Brokers Office ??!!!

By
Real Estate Agent with KW Elite

About 1.5 years ago I got into a disagreement with the former owner of our company. It revolved around the redesigning of office space I was renting from the company. Unable to come to a meeting of the minds, I told him he could KEEP HIS OFFICE SPACE ! I took everything out of the office and set up a quasi- home office.

It turned out to be a great move ! Working virtual has helped me MAX out the available hours I have in a business day ! Nowhere near the distractions a typical real estate office has. Through it all, I have kept asking myself " why do I need to drive somewhere each day to sit down and THEN start my day ???" The clear answer is I DON'T !

Living and working virtually has really confused my neighbors ! Many mornings I rise bright and early, fire up the morning coffee and hop on my notebook. By 9:00 am I've followed up all incoming leads, completed property searches and have talked to everyone on my team who actually need my attention. It's now time to walk my Golden Retriever. I often see neighbors in my still unshaved(and unshowered) condition. I'm sure they must be thinking,"poor guy ,he must have lost his job !"

I keep a very small space at a geographically remote office location our company has primarily for the convenice of that market we serve. But after having experienced the freedom and efficentcy that working virtual has given me, I'll never return to the trappings of traditional real estate ! How about you ?

Amen to the home office.  Minimal distraction and cutting down on the commute often gives you an hour or more each day.

Only tough part can be staying motivated and focused only on work, but if you can manage that it beats a crowded office by a longshot!

Agreed, I love being able to skip the daily commute - my wife has bad anxiety attacks and it's also comforting to be near if needed! Have a great early weekend friend!

....Experience Isn't Expensive.... It's Priceless!

I love my home office, and do not miss a daily commute at all.  With the convenience of multiple office locations for clients, etc...I can choose where to be when, and enjoy the extra time I have by not having to be on the road every morning and evening coming / going to a specific office.

Michael, I am glad to see that you have found your "happy place"!  Personally, I need to go to the office to avoid the distractions at home:)

I'm commenting from my screened-in porch office. I love it. While I'm working I can enjoy the birds singing & the occasional deer wandering out of the woods by the pond. I have everything I need; i.e. a pot of coffee, a box of cigars (definitely a plus not attainable in my "real" office, the internet, telephone, and a fan. And, if I want to take a break, I can take a dip ;) An added plus is the quality time I get to spend with my 3 year-old grandson who spends most days with us that I totally missed with my other grandkids.

The only thing I need at my "real" office is a conference room to meet clients.

Woprking from home today, however, Trudy does like it if I am out of the house, so coffee shops, the local library and even our brokers office are all places I come to rest. But to be honest, working from home is the best use of time I can think of.

Glad to hear the rest of the story. Yes, having a home office is important, but I know I need the human interaction of the larger office. I do have the portability to work in so many places. Hope to see you in the office on occasion. :)

Exceptional Customer Service!

I maximize the flexibility of working remotely and having space at the office. My office provides exceptional administrative support and I find it crucial to interact with these folks in the coordination of closings, advertising, etc. It is true - this is a great profession allowing for personal flexibility as we all have different work habits and structures. Stay cool!

Mike,

I have worked out of a home office for numerous years and love. Better equipment and more productive than any traditional office. We believe in the virtual office to the extent that we opened a "virtual brokerage" Area Pro Realty -Southern PA.

Mike, couldn't agree with you more, my home office is far better equipped with audio and video equipment to produce any type of media I feel inspired to create. Great choice

I've been working out of my home for over 30 years. Staying motivated is not hard, if you need motivation buy a mercedes, the payment will motivate you plenty.

With experience working at home for so many years I saw the value in Area Pro Realty back in 2007 and have never looked back.

Mike, while a home office is not ideal for some folks (with distractions at home), it's great for most Realtors who want to save money by not paying brokerage overhead for a brick-and-mortar office.  Also good for the environment, and provides enormous peace of mind.  I've been working "virtually" for over 10 years now, and loving every minute.  For those times when I need to meet a client at an office, I pay for flex-office space and it works perfectly.  :)

I haven't worked at an office since 2002. Whenever I went to the office, too many people wanted to talk with me, and I was way more productive at home!

Ha Ha ha! I never wanted a desk at the big office. I never got anything done there because, as realtors, we are social by nature. The only time you see me in the office is to turn in paperwork. After I turn it in I spend time talking to my collegues just to bond more. I am sure I have slowed them down from getting their work done but because they are social, they don't seem to mind.

I have a home office and at the office I have a private office. I like working at either place but lately I get more done at the office. I recently got a miniature pony he's 2 1/2. He so cute but also time consuming and I find lately if I'm home I want to be at the barn. So for know the office is working better it forces me to budget my time!

Too Cute!!Kindle
