Electronic Signatures are a Must in a Realtor Repertoire!

Electronic signatures are fairly new but are a must in a Realtor repertoire.    I know learning new things is hard sometimes but I refused when my children were little to get left behind when it comes to technology.  This is not to be mistaken with getting a new phone with each version that comes out as I had my Blackberry for almost 3 years before recently getting an Android.  But there are two must haves for Realtors in California - Online Winforms (real estate forms for use in California) and Electronic Signatures.

The convenience electronic signatures afford for buyers and sellers is what makes them so valuable.  When we need documents signed we there are a few choices
signature - DeeDee Riley - Realtor - El Dorado Hills CA - meeting the clients, emailing it to them to print out and fax or email back, or electronic signatures.  Consider the difficulty of meeting the clients when you or they are out of town.  Or how about the difficulty if they are on vacation and have to track down somewhere they can print a document out and get it faxed or emailed back.  With electronic signatures they only need a computer with internet access and with some programs may even be able to sign with mobile devises.

I used electronic signatures recently for a husband and wife who were my buyers.  The husband was on a business trip to India and his wife was in Oregon.  With me living in El Dorado Hills CA, the wet signature was not even a possibility.  The print out and fax back option might have worked but with my client in India it was much more difficult for him.  We were able to use electronic signatures to get all their addendums and counters signed.  The electronic signatures were convenient and a must for us!    If you have not tried DocuSign, it's time!!!  As a Realtor, it should be part of your repertoire.

This post is a submission to the DocuSign/ActiveRain Electronic Signature Stories Contest. It's possible I will win a prize for writing this post. You could win a prize too by going to the Contest Announcement and sharing your own story.

Do you ever find that banks won't accept electronic signatures?  Many of the listings here in AZ say that electronic signatures will not be accepted by the seller (usually a bank).

What a cool testimony.  I know that banks are split on this, but as the technology grows.....it will be accepted!

Hi Liz,

The situation I told about in my post above was actually on a REO prooperty and we propbably 1/2 of our paperwork by electronic signatures, the listing agent and bank included.  I guess it just depends on the bank -this one was JP Morgan. Thanks so much for your comment!

Hi Larry,

I agree.  I don't think they want them on short sales yet!  Thanks for your comment!

DeeDee, the electronic contracts ARE a must have!    I have discontinued my "fax line", as I have not had a fax in forever.    It is much easier to scan and email and they don't shrink either!

I'm loving my Docusign, but at the same time I'm finding more and more banks requiring wet signatures. (Especially short sales)
