It's that time of year for those of us living in Lafayette, Louisiana, Acadiana, and along the Gulf Coast. Are you prepared? Being pro-active and having emergency plans in place, or knowing where to turn for information or assistance, can keep you and your family safe.

There are numerous online sites offering advice and tips to prepare for the hurricane season. However, the National Oceaninc and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) offers a list of state and local emergency telephone numbers, media outlets, and evacuation information for Gulf South residents. Their site is a 'one-stop' ready reference to help you prepare for these natural disasters.

Mike, great info to get out for people in hurricane prone areas.  For the most part all I have to worry about is tornadoes...and wow did we get some a couple of months ago.

After all the hurricanes I’ve been through (Beulah, Camille, Carla, Allen, and others), I don’t miss them. I got so tired of that annual hurricane stuff that I decided to see what earthquakes were like. 17 years and no significant earthquake. Much better than annual hurricanes.

Mike:

No matter where one lives it is always good to be prepared.  Having emergency supplies, first aid kit, and other preparedness items is necessary whether you live in earthquake country, like I do, or in hurricane country like you do.  There is always the possibility of an emergency situation.  Having supplies and equipment is just plain prudent.
