We Went, We Played and We Ate --Fun at the 53rd Annual Mullet Festival, Swansboro North Carolina

I told you a couple of weeks ago about the upcoming Mullet Festival in Swansboro, North Carolina.  On Saturday I attended the 53rd annual Mullet Festival.  It is one of the longest running festival in the country.

Unfortunately, I had some issues with my camera and did not get as many photos as I had hoped to get and share. I am providing a link (city data - dsobotta) to another site which has some outstanding photos of the day and the activities.

The weather was just perfect, a wonderful Eastern North Carolina fall day.  The day started with a parade through downtown with Swansboro's oldest native, 97 year old Margie Conder, serving as Grand Marshall.  There were beautiful floats, marching bands, scout troops, clowns and all the kinds of participants that one would expect and want in a parade.  What a way to start a glorious day.

Food vendors along Front and Main streets offered everything from seafood and ribs to cotton candy.  Strolling along and inhaling the aroma was a delight but who could settle for the olfactory experience when the mouth was salivating for the tasty food the vendors were cooking up.   Not me, for sure.

There were beautiful arts and crafts of every imaginable kind and type and the business was brisk.  Most people seemed to be carrying a bag with a purchase of some type.

Carnival games and face painting seemed to be the biggest hit with the children.  They patiently waited in line  squealing with pleasure when it was their turn.

The entertainment was extraordinary Saturday and Sunday and the crowd was enthusiastic and appreciative of the musicians who willingly and graciously signed autographs, posed for photos and mingled with the festival attendees.

The sound of laughter and smiles on the faces of parents and children attested to the success of the day.

Hi Cynthia,

It sounds like it was a great time...you've been having awesome weather there lately too. It's wonderful that Margie could be the grand marshal of the parade!

Hello Jo,
Yes, it was a good day and our weather has been outstanding.  We just need rain but not as badly here as inland.

Cynthia, it sounds like you had a wonderful time!  You know how I feel about fairs, I'm sorry they're pretty much over for the most part now :(  There's one I didn't even post yet---my own little fair.  Thank you for sharing your day.

Hi Cynthia,

Looks like it was lots of fun. Sorry your camera was giving you trouble. I was hoping for some real-life mullet sightings. I see some good ones around here every now and then. So how was the fish?

How frustrating about the camera. You probably took some great shots too! Sounds like a really fun fair!

Cynthia...this is so funny!  But, I didn't see one mullet in the photos. Were there many there?  Oh how I love NC!

Hi Vicki,
Sorry to disappoint you but as I said, I had camera issues.  There is a photo in the link of the festival fish.  Thanks for coming by.

 Hello Joan,
Very frustrating, indeed!  Actually, I realized I had problems before I shot very many photos.  :0(  .  These festivals are so much fun, especially when you have an enthusiastic kid along.  I appreciate your visit and comments.

Hello Diane,
The mullet being celebrated at this festival is a fish.  Did you think it was the "haircut"?  If so don't feel badly, you are not alone.  Thanks for stopping by.
