Median household income: $30,938 (year 2000)

How does this help me, you might ask?

Well, when I see that the Median income is 60% of the Median home value, that tells me that there are alot of tennants who may not realize they can afford to buy instead of rent.  That tells me I have some work to do...

If I can help a few of those tennants become home buyers, several things will happen:

  • First-Time homebuyers are more likely to be loyal to their Realtor than someone making their 2nd or 3rd purchase.
  • Satisfied first-time homebuyers (in their early 30's) are likely to bring repeat business and upgrade to a larger home faster than older clients buying the $800,000 home of their dreams.
  • As the % of owner-occupied homes increases, so will the level of pride in the appearance of the neighborhoods, and community involvement.  This plants the seeds for home-values to increase at a more rapid rate than it might otherwise.
  • When the residents of a community own (and thereby pay taxes) in a municipality, their voice is heard more loudly by the local politicians. (sad, but often true)
  • The Realtor Code of Ethics is based on the concept of "widely distributed ownership" of the land.  Helping renters become owners supports that directly, and I get a warm fuzzy feeling, knowing I have done my part to help someone realize a portion of the American Dream.
