Fall is the perfect time to get outside and get to some of those home repairs that need to be done. I have listed just a few of these items below:
· Change/clean the furnace filter
· Drain several gallons of water from your hot water heater
· Drain outside faucets, remove hoses from faucets and winterize sprinkler system. Make sure you unhook the hose from the faucet before the first frost. There is nothing worse than a burst pipe in the wall.
· Clean filters for kitchen exhaust fan
· Check driveway for cracks and reseal as needed
· Check the grade around your foundation. Make sure that the ground slopes so the water will flow away from your home
· Check your gutters to make sure the water can flow freely. Gutters that are overflowing can cause water to come into your basement.
· Pass a lit candle around doors & windows to check for drafts and winterize
· Add foam insulation covers under outlet and switchplate covers.
· Check the rubber gasket on the bottom of your garage door. These can be replaced easily and for little money. Pest experts are predicting that mice will be more of a problem this year due to the late frost we had this Spring. This may help keep a tighter seal so they can't squeeze under the door or through a gap.
I hope this helps. Now get outside and enjoy that fresh air! :)
