By now everyone should realize the trick to getting a home loan is to know there are NO tricks for getting a home loan! Welcome to Part 4 of the Tips for Buying Real Estate in the NC Mountains (or anywhere).
If you've read Parts One, Two and Three - we have come to the part in the home buying process where we find out WHAT price range you are qualified for and comfortable in. Equally important is to know IF now is the best time for you to purchase a home. You want to take care of this step BEFORE we look at houses. Time and hope is far too precious to waste without this critical bit of information.
It seems in years past the main criteria to qualifying for a loan was if evidence of breathing appeared on a mirror or if someone had a pulse. Of course, that's part of what got us in all this trouble!
Now, it's a little more complicated but can still be handled simply. It will take a little bit of time, but you can either talk to a lender in person, by phone or online.

The following are names and contact information of lenders our clients have liked working with. Call one or more and find out who you like talking to the best. Simply tell them you would like help figuring out what price you would qualify for in a mortgage. These lenders will help you determine what a good house payment would be for you and are excellent at making you feel comfortable about the details of your home loan.
It should always be exciting to look for a new house. You’ll take most of the stress out of the whole process when talk to the lender first. The rest of the stress relief is up to us!

Before we can go do the fun part of looking for a house, invest a little bit of time and talk to a lender. The real tricks for Getting a Home Loan??? Be thorough AND completely honest with the lender. Get potential financial issues out of the way upfront! There's nothing more heartbreaking than finding the house you love and losing it because your lender wasn't informed of potential problems. Chances are the lender can help you repair the problem.
