Cannon County Courthouse

I love the charm of the old buildings in my town so I thought I would share them on the localism section of AR! The original courthouse burned in 1934 and this one was erected in 1935. The present Cannon County Courthouse features a striking Colonial Revival design by the Nashville architect George Waller and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Inside you will find the walls lined with local veterans that have served in our nation's military branches. The monument out front is a tribute to a few local heroes that have died in war and includes my uncle Harold Lawton Basham on it.

I love the look of historic buildings.  Does the bell toll at the top of the Cannon County Courthouse?

I remember Harold well. I was eight years younger than him but he was always very kind to me. A huge loss and I never miss a chance when in DC to pay my respects at his name on the memorial.

Thanks so much for sharing your memory of my Uncle Harold Kent! I wish I would have had the opportunity to really have known him. It was always sad to know how much pain it brought my dad and grandparents. My son went on a trip to DC several years ago with his class and brought me back a rubbing from the memorial there. It is nice to know that people care that families sacrifice much.
