Stay with this -- the answer is at the end. One evening a grandson was talking to his grandmother about current events. The grandson asked his grandmother what she thought about the shootings at schools, the computer age, and just things in general... The Grandmother replied, "Well, let me think a minute . . . I was born before: ' television ' penicillin
' polio shots ' frozen foods ' Xerox ' contact lenses ' Frisbee s and ' the pill There were no:
' ball-point pens ' credit cards ' laser beams or ' ball-point pens Man had not invented:
' pantyhose ' air conditioners ' dishwashers ' clothes dryers ' and the clothes were hung out to dry in the fresh air and
' man hadn't yet walked on the moon We never heard of FM radios, tape decks , CD's, electric typewriters, yogurt, or guys wearing earrings.
We listened to Big Bands, Jack Benny, and the President's speeches on our radios. If you saw anything with 'Made in Japan ' on it, it was junk !
The term 'making out' referred to how you did on your school exam.
Pizza Hut, McDonald's, and instant coffee were unheard of.
We had 5 &10-cent stores where you could actually buy things for 5 and 10 cents.
Ice-cream cones, phone calls, rides on a streetcar, and a Pepsi were all a nickel.
You could buy a new Ford Coupe for $600, but who could afford one?
Too bad, because gas was 11 cents a gallon.
How old do you think I am? Read on to see -- pretty scary if you think about it and pretty sad at the same time.
Are you ready ?????
This woman would be only 59 years old. |
Funny - the possibilities are endless I'm sure, but I've got so much junk now I hope it slows down a little or I learn to control my enthusiasm for the latest and greatest new gadget! ;o)
Robert - I can't remember the last time I willingly used a fax machine. We still have local realtors who can't used anything else :(
Roseanne - Controlling your enthusiasm? That's a huge problem for me too, LOL I need a bigger attic!
Susan- How did we manage?? I remember hose and garter belts and Five&Dime stores... and if I go on it'll hit me 1) how far we've come and 2) how old I am.
The simple days of days gone by......oh wait that was just 10 years ago!! LOL Pretty interesting stuff!
Hi Susan...1952....mmm seems I think some of those thing were around, but it does make you think How times Flies when you're having Fun!
Hi Susan, ok..whew, I just make it under the "grandma" title by 8 years. We certainly have come a long way...kinda scary to think what it will be like 20 years from today!
Fred - time does fly when you're living life! I'm sure some of these things were invented prior to then but maybe not popular? Who knows, we're old :0)
It's hard to believe all that happened in just 59 years! What will the next 50 years bring? I was laughing yesterday at the whole tooth fairy thing and how much that has changed too, thinking next thing you know the fairy will be leaving merchant gift cards under pillows instead of coins.
Wow! It's amazing how far our world has come in 59 years, and how things have changed...good and bad!
Funny - Terrrifying? I guess so. I was reading your list of stuff - So it was a man that invented panty hose? Some women probably still hold that against us!
Georgina and Shannon - we're just getting better and better! (Whose older? Not us!!)
Gene - pantyhose were a Godsend. I still remember my first pair - I had arrived !
