Sellsius° Blog   says join  MyBlogLog.com

"Sellsius has added you as a contact.

Have you received this message in your email yet? If you're a blogger, you probably will if you join MyBlogLog and visit Sellsius (come by and say hello). IMHO, MyBlogLog is the hottest thing in the blogosphere. MBL is building a community network of bloggers and readers, encouraging us to make contact with each other, learn about each other's interests (other blogs) and showcase our blogs. The community links are great for discovering new blogs. I've found a number of really good ones, well under the radar, for now. And I've just scratched the surface."

I think now MyBlogLog is what I thought Active Rain was before I joined.  Something to use to promote my other blog.  I know I invited all the bloggers I knew to Active Rain and said so before Jim Lee told me I needed to start blogging and commenting on Active Rain.  Huh?  I guess I got carried away and did not read all the directions on Active Rain.   oooops I did it again, It's a blog. (Members Only) Join Active Rain for the real estate industry

I found MyBlogLog.com through the Zillow blog a month or so ago... and joined and forgot about it.  I have been back and keep running into bloggers I know, many from Active Rain.

MyBlogLog.com  is a social network... you can use it to promote your other blog.  You don't have to write another blog on MyBlogLog.com  MyBlog.com is what I thought Active Rain was.  I am glad I did not know what Active Rain was until it was too late....

MyblogLog vs. Active Rain vs. Dogster vs. Catster

Alexa comparing four social networks... MyBlogLog.com, Active Rain, Dogster.com, Catster.com (remember Alexa is skewed....for dogs and away from cats? no...it has to do with who would have the Alexa toolbar installed on their computer, right? ....)

Let's get rid of the dogs and cats:

MyBlogLog.com vs. ActiveRain.com

MyBlogLog.com is big.   I am used to doing Alexa graphs with Active Rain towering above the other social networks... well except of course Dogster because those of us on Active Rain who are Dog Lovers know, Dogs Rule! and when they are dressed up or doing tricks they are so much more photogenic  than a REALTOR® blogger, a geek blogger or a bubble blogger will ever be. So when I first did this comparison a couple of weeks ago I was shocked!  .. even if Alexa sucks (someone usually writes a comment saying that if I don't say it first..... ) Alexa  does have some capabilities like look...you can change the time frame and see when a blog, website or social network first hit the www (if it is big enough)  MyBlogLog's been around for awhile....

MyBlogLog.com vs. Active Rain

MyBlogLog.com had a head start. Looks like first quarter 2005.  MyBlogLog.com is not just real estate... there are all kinds of blogs on it... Now if I can just remember to go back to MyBlogLog.com occasionally, and write up my profile page and add my Active Rain Blog there (so even if you just blog on Active Rain, check out MyBlogLog.com... use it to promote your Active Rain blog.)  Use it to find blogs in your community.

NOTE: You can not put the code on to use MBL on Active Rain...in the same way as you can on many blog... of course you can't... I got excited but Maureen Francis set me straight in the comments.

Sellsius Blog says:

"MyBlogLog is utterly simple to use, but very powerful. Just sign up, add your profile, join a hot community, add a link to your blog and you're off. You'll see who visits and leaves a comment. Once you begin adding contacts, you'll be added back. Make a comment and make a friend. Discover cool blogs. It's a viral community. Before you know it, you will be looking forward to the ".....has added you as a contact" in your email. And when you do, you'll invariably visit the site and meet someone new- or maybe even an old friend."

Now about those surges on Dogster.com where it has had better traffic than Active Rain.... I was thinking if we dressed Matt and Caleb up real cute and posted some photos....

Hey great tip Maureen. I'm going to go check it out...I just hope it really is easy to use.

Thanks

Monika

It is not as easy to use for me as others, but it is easier than Technorati and Feedburner!

For some reason I can not get my AR blog on it... but I know KK or MF or Bonnie or Teresa  or the Sellsius° Bloggers  someone will help me figure it out somehow, someday.  Or maybe you, Monika!

I did have my AR blog on it and I just took it off.  Since we don't have access to the 'code' for AR, I cannot add the tracking tools that are really one of the cooler features of mybloglog.  You, MM, would like the behind the scenes reports that the blog owner can get on mbl.

As for that "look who's visited my blog" widget that I just put on my blog last night (complete with pictures), that is available for any blog that you can access the template code.  So it should work on CBB.

Well at least you have saved me time MF.  Gee I wish we could promote our AR blogs on MBL...  maybe this blog is totally inappropriate here now...  luring ARs to MBL...a different social network and not one we can promote our AR blog on...I better edit.  WAH!

I got the neatest email because of this blog... My pal Fred "Google is your friend" Salzer got a Google Alert link to this because of the word Zillow.  So he emailed to tell me I am missed on RealTalk.  So if I sprinkle the word Zillow in entries just to keep in touch with Fred don't be shocked...

I invited Fred to AR.  He takes the approach he is semi-retired so he will stay in RTland.  I could see Fred cyber cogitating (is that a word?) with Jay and Medford and many on Active Rain ... of course he'd be telling folks to "Google It" or the more conversational "Google is your friend."

No, I don't think your blog is at all inappropriate.  People have blogged about just about every other social network out there on AR.  Myspace. wannanetwork and the rest.  I don't see these two as competitors.

Say hi to fred and the RT gang for me.

PS. You can promote it on MBL.  Marlow for 360 digest has everything on her mbl page.  Her squidoo lens, AR page, etc.  I think she has 9 things up there.  I just thought I did not need the AR blog up there since I can't use the tools.  Personal choices.

I have people on my other blog... it works on an RT Blog just like MF said it would...I have Bonnie, MF, Teresa (only it is St. Paul) I might change my photo to Columbus.  My face looked squatty so I put on the morphing lady but she is giving me motion sickness today.

I joined this morning when I discovered it outside this post. Haven't gone back to see what else happens with the account, but I really liked the Top Link widget on the sidebar.

I have written a couple of things to RT that have not appeared.  Lost in cyberspace or censored?  I don't have time for it and it is the same thing over and over. Active Rain is fresh...

I am pretty lost on MBL but I love those friendly faces on my blog...

Thank goodness I stopped by your blog before I made a complete fool of myself by posting an entry saying "What on earth is MyBlogLines?  I really was only gone from noon Friday to last night, but had a bunch of invites to something I had not even heard of before!  I still haven't figured out how to do groups on AR and now I have to figure out MBL, too?  Technology is sooooo demanding!

Maureen, How did you get the del.icio.us thing on your CBB blog?  I registered there a long time ago, but nothing came up in my search for others.  It felt very lonely.  Then today you were there so I added you.  How did you get the del.icio.us thing?  I didn't find any code anywhere.

Now I'm going to be even more obtuse and realize that I had registered on MyBlogLines back in October.  I thought I was alone over there and suddenly this weekend a lot of friendly faces showed up.  I really have to figure out how to use it.  I tried to get it on Active Rain but it doesn't seem to show up anywhere I put the code.

Looks like a great resource. I think MBL will comlement ActiveRain by expanding our reach. Going to add this to the weekend project list.

MM, Do you mind if we all put our MBL links here, so that we can find each other?  Navigating the thing is a little weird, and I want to find my AR friends.

Here is mine

That is a wonderful idea!!!

I have no idea what mine is but I will go look for it sometime.

There it is....  Maureen M. on MyBloglog.com I joined at the end of October ... was  the Zillow thing with that housing group making a complaint at the  end of October?    I know I found it through Zillow Blog.  Wonder if Bonnie found it about the same time similiarly.

MF, I found that on MBL yesterday myself.  It was very helpful and made it possible to navigate around and find a bunch of old familiar faces.  Karen Rhodes, of All Rhodes Lead to Home (Chatanooka KY) is there, Jim Lee, all the big important guys that MM has mentioned before, lots of old friends found.  And some new freaky ones too!

I joined a while back and didn't see the "who has visited widget" and was really bored with the "links" feature. It was pretty embarrassing when it went blank.

But, thanks to your blog there are now pretty faces with Sadie on our personal blog.

I had to take down the widget.  I loved it but I think it was making my blog load super slowly.

Maureen Francis - funny you mention that I have been having some problems and also am assuming it is the widget.

Maureen M, I just wanted you to stop by my active rain  blog and see my green graph. :)

Your green graph is lovely...  the data is from Site Meter but what did you use to make the graph, if I may ask...

and that lovely green graph and the article are about your other blog right?  Not your Active Rain blog...  I will be leaving a comment there soon too.

Great Post, Maureen!

I love mybloglog- I am constantly shooting private messages out to my buds on mybloglog and directly dialoguing with other bloggers I respect- even had my first crazy stalker incident on there- then watched people I never even knew read me leap to my defense. It was very touching in that online surreal kind of scary way- but touching none the less.

Basically, MyBlogLog really does help you to better connect with your blogging peers more personally.

Wow, I see you got the word out Maureen. MBL is a great way to find new blogs & make new friends and contacts.  And it's always nice to see a friendly face, like yours.

Here's also a neat thing.  Whereas to email a blogger to just say a private hi, how are you,  may be uncomfortable for either party, it's  part of MBL to just reach out and touch someone.  The walls separating us are paper thin at MBL.  Martha says that's a good thing:)

Toby & Sadie: Good to see your smiling faces on MBL. Boxers don't smile with their faces though do they?  They smile with their bodies.

MF & TB: Was it da Widget? Slowing ya down?

MM (as in Mary McKnight): I don't know why but some of the photos on MBL look like crazy stalker folk...but then again some on AR do too.

BB: See you on MBL

JF: I  am still disorientd on MBL... wander around...but I think it will be a good thing. See you on MBL.

MF: I don't mind MoMac but it is MoMc.

Thanks for the tip, Maureen.

I signed up and will check it out when I have the chance.

Also, I was working on cleaning up my blogroll today on my other blog, and added Columbus Best Blog.  Please reciprocate unless you want me to send a black plague of death down your way.  Just kidding, LOL.

I put the widget back up.  And added a feature that your pic is next to your comments if you are an MBL member.  What do you think?  Dorky?

I just went back and tried to figure it out again.  I have no idea how I did it.  It must have been in some settings thing.  But I can not find it again.  Which means I cannot turn it off if it slows the site down.

I got an invite from Bonnie the other day - I assumed it was legitimately from Bonnie anyway.  I joined up that day but haven't had a chance to go back and work on it.  I did get several people email me and welcome me, which I thought was nice and at the same time odd, but it was/is because I didn't know what MBL is.....thanks Bonnie.

Found it!

"Edit Site Settings"

"faces on settings"  left side at bottom.  I have no idea if they support RT blogs.  I bet you will be the first to request it.

I still have not figured out MyBlogLog.com myself in fact this morning I had an email that puzzled me:

Your MyBlogLog Pro 3-Day Free Trial Has Ended. We've switched you to the free version of MyBlogLog.  You'll still get some great stats and community features, but not all of them. With a free account your stats are calculated every 24 hours (at midnight on the East Coast of the US). Also, for free accounts we only save your stats data for 7 days. So if you want to Pro services with no interruption in your archived data, you have 7 days to act. You can switch back to MyBlogLog Pro by logging into MyBlogLog and going to "Account Settings." We accept PayPal for payment."

I thought huh?  I have been on MyBlogLog.com since sometime in October... not that I did anything. Then I noticed the link at the bottom is for my MaureenMcCabe.com website, not my Columbus Best Blog blog....

I must have had a 3 day free trail period on MyBlogLog.com for my blog that ended long ago.

That message is for having the reporting stuff/looking at the stats.  I don't pay.  So I get the stats the day after.  Did you install the code for the stats?
