I recently blogged about leaving a business card after viewing a home and getting feedback when I contact other agents, see: http://activerain.com/blogsview/237463/Do-you.

One comment bothered me so I thought I would throw it out to see what my fellow Rainers thought. One comment said, no response is a response. So what do you think of that? What kind of response is it? My thought process was to get feedback from the clients and other agents point of view good or bad. Certainly if the client doesn't like the place feedback to me as to why is certainly helpful, in my opinion.

Certainly no response is they don't like it, but it doesn't say why. Are we agents just competitors in a "dog eat dog" industry or are we professionals poised to help clients and each other for the good of all? So is no response REALLY a worthy response or is it just rude and unprofessional?

I wouldn't take something as a, "no response", personal. I think it's nice to help other agents out, but if there is a no response, it could mean anything (good or bad), and I would just be thankful for the "responses" that come.

Hi Gaylen! I think you are BOTH correct. No comment is a comment. AND THIS IS THE COMMENT IT IS:

"Hello there! I'm a lazy, selfish, unprofessional agent who is just doing this for a one shot check. I certainly don't see any value in my own opinion or developing professional relationships. As a matter of fact, I don't even care that your Seller may see real estate professionals in a poor light after I have trounced through their home and refused to even extend professional courtesy. Believe me, you wouldn't want my opinion anyway."

So, you're both right. A professional WOULD extend the courtesy and no comment is the comment above.

I have to agree with Lania - Well said! I mean if he can't be bothered to give a response, write cryptic snide comments; would his opinion matter anyway?

Gaylen, I've had it happen many times, where the buyers agent doesn't leave a card and will not return calls or emails for feedback. Did you show the house? Were you even in there? My sellers have a right to know!! The one's that are occupied, I keep up on them until I get an answer, the vacant listings I let go after the first couple initial requests. It's just common courtesy in my opinion. Excellent post and string of comments!

Amy - I don't take it personally, I take it as Lania and Todd express, which is what it is.

Lania & Todd - Very well said, that is what I was thinking myself. You verbalized it perfectly.

Mike - You are so right, but you know, common courtesy isn't common these days.

Gaylen - Sometimes we just get to busy and forget to give feed back. Sometimes the time isn't right. Sometimes that is just the way it goes. No response is nothing more than no response. Nothing personal, just a series of events leading to no feedback. Just move on.

Lania - Time for your meds, take it down a notch.

Todd - Try some of whatever Lania needs.

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

KC- Sometimes you need to ramp it up a notch per Lania's suggestion. Sometimes an excuse is just an excuse for not being professional.

Gaylen, I think it is rude and unprofessional. For someone to say "no response is a response" That is just lazy. There is nothing constructive in "no response". I am sure that if the shoes were on a different foot people would not make comments like that one.

Some of us professionals are pretty busy and if you get to that level sooner or later you will find yourself in the position of letting something fall through the cracks. Not intentionally, not being mean spirited, just at that moment in time it happened.

KC - I think you us the term professional loosely. I've been in sales and marketing and Real Estate for over 30 years and I have been as busy or more so than you ever have been. I have never failed to leave a card or to provide feedback on a timely basis when asked by another sales professional. It isn't falling through the cracks it is professional courtesy and conduct to do so, anything else is just an excuse for lack of professionalism in it's true form.

That is also the great part. And the reason you can make so much $$
