I'm a complete failure as a blogger. I set out at the beginning of the year to post these random thoughts once a month week. Once a month would have been a more realistic target. I don't know how some of you do it. I suppose it becomes a routine......I've never been a big routine person. Or maybe I just don't have enough worthwhile thoughts in a given week?
Has anyone else noticed that Google is now returning multiple results for one domain on a given search? I am seeing searches where the same domain shows up 4, 5, even more times. I must have missed the announcement about this. Or maybe it's just something in my Google account that is causing this to happen? Anyone have some insight on this? Don't get me wrong, when AR is ranking and being shown 3-5 times, it's great, just wondering what their (Google) thinking is........(as if they share it with us peons).
Now is the time to be thinking about what people will be searching for in the fall. Information about schools will be a pretty big one coming up. Kerrie is going to have a challenge put together soon focusing on this topic. Keep your eyes peeled for that. I'm sure there will be some big points to be earned. But what else do people search for in the fall? Corn mazes and haunted houses are a big one, I know that for sure. What else?
In my house it is impossible not to know how many days until Michigan Football season kicks off. It's 39 (as of the today) in case you were wondering. We have some friends coming in for the opener and my parents will be in town for that weekend and the following weekend........which is Michigan - Notre Dame, under the lights at the Big House. They've never started a game at 8pm in Ann Arbor before. How many fans do you think will be passed out on the golf course before kickoff? My bet is if you don't have a ticket you'll be able to grab one out of any number of passed out people's pockets on the way into the stadium. Please do the right thing and leave cash for face value in said pocket.
I miss Jonathan here at ActiveRain. Not because Nikesh isn't great, I just miss Jon. He's coming out for the season opener so I can't wait to see him. I thoroughly enjoy just chatting with him on the phone about his new venture. If you're reading Jon, just know I'm here any time you need to bounce an idea around :-).
Do you just sit on your hands and wait for people to find your blog in the search engines? I wonder if there is an idea for how to get your blog in front of more people the way Fernando used QR codes to spread the word about his first time homebuyer campaign. I loved his idea from the Kodak Mobile Marketing Challenge. In fact, his post won. Debe placed second with a really creative tour she created around Charlotte. Are you taking advantage of these new technologies to do things that are outside the box? If you're not, consider copying Fernando or Debe! My friend Ben has a really strong business and many of his great ideas are ideas he borrows from someone else and adapts them to make them better.
I'm sure you've considered firing a client. Many of you probably have. This week I've thought a few times about firing an ActiveRain member. I don't want to sound like an ass, but participation here is not a right. Paying money to be a Rainmaker does not allow you to walk on our staff. Some people are not worth the hassle. If you are offended by this, you're probably one of these people to someone. We will bend over backwards to help you, I promise. But being a jerk isn't going to make us want to go the extra mile. If you use multiple exclamation points, put words in all caps or curse, you're probably being a jerk. I can read. I know that one exclamation point means you are driving home a point. I'm not a piece of shit, so I'm not sure why you said that......haha. Consider yourself warned, you might get fired, but only if you're a jerk.
Have I said in this post yet how freaking lucky I am that I tricked my wife into marrying me? No.......well then consider it said. We finished our basement on our own. It was a pretty good little adventure with me wanting to do as little as possible and her of course wanting the opposite. Our friend Terry helped me frame the walls and then I was on my own (with his guidance and tools) to do the rest. Turned out pretty good......and God bless Christa, she let me get a brown leather sectional down there even though she hates it. It was a trade for the entire basement being a shrine to Michigan Football. Somehow I'm going to sneak in some Seahawks stuff, just haven't figured out how yet.

Do you keep up with your past clients on Facebook? Why not build a list with them so that you can check in on them once a week and see what they are up to. Maybe leave them a little note on their wall every now and then and for sure comment when they post pictures of the kids doing fun stuff around the yard. NEVER let them forget who sold them that house they are building so many wonderful memories in!
