This will seem strange, but this is one closing we almost didn't want to have! As REALTORS®, we employed our usual extensive marketing to sell this gem of a home. The sellers had done everything right! Fully updated, extras no buyer should have even HOPED for at the price point, really a joy to market. So kick in the full internet blitz, visual tours, etc. We got showings and plenty of them. Three offers to get to an acceptable one that satisfied the sellers and this set of buyers. Some creative contract language to bring the two sides together and the deal was on track. Smooth. Easy peazy!
But here's the flip side of the coin. These sellers weren't just some anonymous sellers to us when we started the listing. Not just someone who's first introduction to us was a listing appointment. These were our best friends and they were leaving for Denver. We've shared many meals together, played Wii with the kids, learned from each other, laughed with each other.
The husband is a master with wood & tile, and our home has benefited tremendously. Crown molding, window and door trim kits installed with his expertise and I can't claim much credit....just that additional set of hands. I can't walk through our home or have visitors without noting his craftsmanship.
The wife taught us some of the inside scoop on Mexican cooking and cake pops :) Our kitchen is stocked with gifts of Mexican vanilla and spices.
The kids, well for them we were basically Aunt Liz and Uncle Bill!
We spent the last two evenings helping them pack up that last big moving van. The closing was this morning. The house is empty and they're now somewhere between Cincinnati and Denver. We've said our goodbyes for now, but we'll be making some trips to Denver to explore their new home area.
They're with family and friends there. As your REALTORS® and your friends, it's not about us, it's about you. So while we'd have loved to have NOT sold this home and kept them here, taking care of people is what we do. So there's a new family in this wonderful home, and they'll make their own memories, and benefit from the work of our friends.
