StatsCan released its mid-year national building permit figures, and Brampton's construction market is HOT, ranking 4th in Canada for total construction (across all sectors).

  • 2nd - industrial development (up 179% for the same period last year)
  • 3rd - residential development (up 121% for the same period last year)
  • 4th - institutional development (up 171% for the same period last year)
  • 13th - commercial development (up 52% for the same period last year)

The article also ventures that Brampton will soon benefit from the GTA's surging condo market, with over 2000 mid-rise and high-rise residential units in the planning process.

Has it really grown that much?  I moved from Oakville over 27 years ago, and Brampton was not very large back then.  That's amazing.  The growth is uncanny when I go home.

Uncanny is right.  The demand continues despite the city/region/province's lagging behind the pace of growth.  Major arterial roads and highway extensions seem to be  perpetual road works projects.  While one civic hospital opens, another closes.  Enrollment at some high schools is so high that there are now calls to cap enrollment next year.
