Just Quit Already

Just quit already!

despair and loss

You don't work, you complain about the current state of our economy and industry. You hate our lack of leadership. You don't like your underwriters or lenders and everyone is conspiring against you! Or is that just perception and attitude?

Thats right you know who you are and so do most of us.

So I ask you this BEFORE you quit...

How can you expect to prosper and thrive if you viewpoint is so negative?
How can you expect to attract others if your tone and what comes out of your mouth is negative?

Your attitude is your course for direction and directly ties to your achievements and success.
So knowing this again I ask "why are you still here if its so bad"?

Here is my take on things and hopefully, if you are one of the negatives, it will inspire you to action.

  1. Do you realize some people are having their best year ever?
  2. Do you realize that most millionaires are made in down cycles not up
  3. Do you realize your attitude affects others (you attract more bees with honey than vinegar)
  4. If you have the ability to complain about your surroundings you have the ability to look for good too
  5. If you seem to be working harder and harder and not seeing results think on this - the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results - do something different open your eyes to whats around you and try something new. There are a ton of great ideas right here in the rain!
  6. If you simply cannot go from negative to positive remember money alone wont make you happy, that is a benefit of your work, efforts and helping solve problems but if you don't like what you do money alone wont change it, it only allows for what you should be doing, your passions and desires, to be put off
  7. What is it you are passionate about? What do you excel at and enjoy doing? - I just watched a show similar to hundreds of others where a lady took a family recipe for toffee and made a business plan to make it and sell it to others. She now has a multi million dollar a year business and her response was "I had no idea I could actually make money at something I love to do"

let yourself shineMoral of the story is, if you love what you do it comes out of you. You attitudes, your speech, your actions all lead and show forward movement and progression. Because you pour your heart into it it becomes magnetic and attracts others. It is inspirational as well as productive and opportunities appear out of nowhere.

You are the only YOU ever created. You are unique and have gifts and talents, YOU are special!

If this isn't your industry, find your passion find what inspires you and motivates you - Take some time to think about what you LOVE... and do it!

Bottom line is if you love this industry then enjoy the rain and the advice, tips, ideas and success story's others share to insire you and get your creative juices flowing. This industry is alive and well. Yes it has challenges but like all things, this too will pass and you will see things change for the better.

happy streetBe positive, do what you love, inspire others, help those in need, never quit never surrender and pour your heart into your passion and there, combined with a relationship with God, will you find peace and happiness joy and abundance. You will be the rock during the storm and an inspiration to others. You then will truly be working in your gifts and seeing the rewards that come with that!

You are so right about the attitude one has. Sometimes it is difficult to balance that with the message you bring. You have to deliver a credible picture of the market with a "can do attitude."

David: Great job with laying it out to share with others. People throw negative out there and wonder why it always comes back and sticks to them. The power of positive thinking is infectious.

I wasn't in this business during the good times but I'm doing great so I don't know what everyone is crying about.

Awesome post.  I have a client who had been trying to get her husband to buy a house for 15 YEARS!  They are in escrow (with 750 credit scores) and every day he tells her "we aren't there yet, might not get the house"  I told her to take him to see the new Winnie the Pooh movie and tell him he's the donkey.  Geez-even with the government (island of misfit toys), the drought, and the talking heads telling us we are circling the drain, we need to realize that we are in the greatest country in the world and we have a lot of power to have great lives!

Being upbeat and positive is the only way- especially in our industry where so many of our clients are emotional about the process (selling the home they owned for 30+ years or enduring the stresses of being a first time buyer, for example). These folks need us - we have to be the calm in the storm.

David, agree! No matter what they say about market and all - people are still buying and selling houses, and they always will. I know a very successful local agent who in this down market sells more (and earns more) than few years back when the market was hot. That is someone to look up to, in my book.

Amen, The mind is powerful. It's all about perception. Why do humans focus so much on self defeat?

I can't agree more.  As a proponent of "positivism" I see far too many of these people every day.  When I was going through the pre-licensing phase earlier this year, I actually had a Realtor/Broker question why I wanted to get into this business, because it was so difficult to succeed.  She said that 20% of the people made 80% of the money and that she was one of them.  I simply shook her hand and introduced myself, "my name is John Davison", I said, "remember that name because I'm the one who's gonna knock you out of the 20% club and take your place."  Then I laughed and slapped her on the back.  She got the point.  If you are positive, love what you do, are passionate about what you do, and sincerely want to help people, you can succeed in this business in any market.  It might take a while to get kick started.  You just have to persevere.

THANK YOU for this post!  For crying out loud, just get in or get out....but stop whining about it!  If you think you can or you think you can't ....you're right!  YOU determine how successful you want to be.....not NAR, not Obama, not the latest buyer incentive from the government.....YOU are the key to your success!  Well said David!

I provide a prized service for my clients and I love working with them individually -- I find it extremely gratifying. I always tell them the truth, and I certainly do not lie by telling them that everything is rosy when in fact national and global economic outlooks are dire.

The world does not need more "sales people"! Truthful, artful, experienced and shrewd counselors are highly paid and highly valued. Dim-witted agents who run around squeaking, "Now is a great time to buy," are embarrassing.

Any informed, educated, honest, clear-thinking, professional, business person knows that we live in troubled times -- that wall streeters and mortgage bankers have literally bankrupted the U.S. ecnomy. Our job is not to ignore, or worse yet, cover up those troubles, but to have the skill-set to help our clients successfully navigate them.

I tell my clients straight up -- THE ECONOMY SUCKS AND IT IS ONLY GOING TO GET MUCH, MUCH WORSE, SO HERE'S WHAT WE ARE GOING TO DO ABOUT IT.

Great Blog, you get what you focus on, so if you just keep moving forward, there is business and great ways to grow and connect.  The rest has really nothing to do with your success and everything to do with your failure.
