A Slurp...A Swallow...A Sigh...

Do you hear it;
Do you see it;
Did you get it;

No, no ...not speaking to the congressional 'dance' ongoing;
Not indicating any local & state items up for discussion;
Never intending to make this a political posting.

Am speaking of the recent almost all night-time "Rains".
With more predicted for today, tonight & into Friday / Saturday.

What then, might be the problem around here ?

Let me first explain--we--here in our part of Macomb County, Michigan--are under a watering-ban-rule..more accurately, we CAN water via sprinklers of the automatic type as long as we follow the Odd-Even [we are Even] days; water only between 12:00 am and 6:00am. The truth I swear--boy do I swear!

We have been following the ban as to days and almost to time of night; due to the fact that we don't let the sprinklers do their 'thing' unattended--thus we start after 10:30 pm.
How's that working out for us, well/...
Let me illustrate:

We do have some real green lawn; it is one the side street area;
Let me illustrate:

OK, with enough RAIN our lawn can look just like those across the street..
WHO do not follow the RULES:

Let me illustrate:

[mailbox from next door]
[Eagle is ours]

Now, I ask you, is this fair?
And, to make matters worse, just got a glimpse of my hair from taking these photos for your enlightenment;

You know Richard Simmonds right--well that is the look.

Not only could you feel the humidity, really FEEL it;
It was palpable, a living, breathing entity [oh wait that is the theme of the New ATT];
Got stung by some flying insect standing outside.
And ended up looking like Simmonds or possibly that "fight promoter" Name?

SOB !!!!  LOL !!!!

One final note: the lawn-service did come  and took samples;
It might actually be an insect investation...DUE to the lack of water !
O.K. so what is the difference--don't see that happening to the:
Lawns Across the Street!!!!

Barb,
Stop slurping and sighing, not good for your overall health. You do have a beautiful lawn and I see your concerns but the County is trying to prevent a drought and if they still allow lawn watering, (some cities don't) do your best to follow the rules because if fines are imposed on those who don't, you will not be among them.  Can you reprogram the sprinklers to water on the days and times specified?  If not you might want to look into it.  Or, remove part of the troubled lawn and plant drought tolerant plants.

I saw on the news today that Texas is in bad need of water and they are keeping an eye on a tropical storm Don now into the Gulf of Mexico that will probably bring some relief.  Rivers are drying up, fish and cattle are dying, and crops destroyed.  So be in good cheer Barb and keep your spirits up.

Barb, I'm one for always following the rules, but I'll admit, my husband would cheat if it meant loosing his plants, garden, or green lawn.

Hope your feeling well, you know how often I think of you! Tomorrow I'm going to see my aunts one 94 and the other 96. Both of them keep saying it's time for God to take them. So for fun I called them today and said I made them some Italian soup, and backed them some Banana chocolate chip bread, and said they had to wait, because I'm bringing them some Heaven on earth before they go to Gods Heaven!

Barb, and don't you know that when there really is a water problem the neighbors with the green grass will complain the loudest.  It's pretty obvious when you drive through a neighborhood who the cheaters are.

Call a Marana neighbor, I'm THERE!

I feel for you - we should all follow the same rules!  We just shut off our irrigation system for now.  Since we are getting the hit and miss monsoons, it is enough moisture that we can hand water the limp plant or two! I'm thankful we don't have steady high humidity!

Somebody is always pushing the rules. We have restrictions too so I know how it affects those who like to keep that great curb appeal that we talk about all the time.

Dee....since it is Saturday--ATT is not working in the area so online for me is ON;
..yesterday, the landscape company came & sprayed the yard--asked Sal what?--he said "don't know, don't care" Well! guess that says it all. We can set the timers for sprinklers--sometimes do that. Sal would rather turn them on manually.
If the spray does not work--then maybe after the heat leaves will look into replacing some areas; We know how it is to be old--this lawn was down in 1986--it is OLD.
Slurping & sighing are probably not the thing to do--as you so correctly said--but as long as it is the lawn,should be OK.
There is a $500. for those not following the rules--IF we didn't follow for sure we would have that fine in our next mailing or on our door.
Thanks for your comment. Have a great weekend.

Ellen...we think alike: Sal did water last night on the bad area as the landscape co. said so;  maybe they will pay any fine we may get--actually. the Township is very flexible on those situations [or so they say LOL-dripping sarcasm]
That is so neat that you carried  the bites of Heaven to your Aunts yesterday. Love to hear about them.
Do feel a tad guilty[about the lawn / watering sob post] when those states that are truly suffering are seen on Cable News [sometimes Local as well] ; That is real suffering.  We are slated for more rain maybe tonight, but definitely Sunday--will see; One funny item on watering bans--1 neighbor with the great green lawn was watering-sprinklers-during the last rain storm; Wait until he gets his water bill.
Thanks for your comment. You come to mind often. here too--but remember--you have the family and all the times needed with them --we don't.  Never concern yourself with calling EVER.  Have a great Sunday.

Nick...so very true. The municipalities can also pick out the 'cheaters' just by checking the water bill--no one around here has an Olympic-sized pool anywhere-that they are filling.
Suspect that some will get the fines. Do know that we would if we didn't follow the bans. On that note--we do have a number of foreign-speaking residents, so maybe they may have missed the notice.  Whatever.
As for the rest of us who are English speaking--you can take it to the bank that if we had a total water ban or worse a massive shortage of water--the non-conforming ones would be loudly complaining.  So far a total water ban is not enacted, but the water pressures have been very low indeed.
Thanks for your comment. Have a great Sunday.

Cara...it does seem a tad ludicrous for me to be posting like this, when all the Western states are experiencing high temps and some drought. Sorry!
Humidity is a problem around here--not today it is only 51%--it is in August.
Since we did not have a real Spring, our temps have been somewhat iffy. Just hope that this strange summer-time does not predict an equally strange winter.
Since we took our Home off the market--watch--feet & feet of snow or winter rains will be on the docket for 2011 promise not to post about snow in Michigan.
Thanks for your comment. Have a great Sunday.

Wayne....ah, "Curb appeal" is hard to keep during the higher temps; however, during heavy rains or flooding-- probably is harder.
Maybe I just object to the non-rule-following-folks.  Must think upon that; perhaps a change in attitude is called for. Probably not going to happen anytime soon--so won't bother.
Thanks for your comment. Have a great Sunday.

....so sorry it has taken me this long to get back on the site.  Thought that it was "down", but to my surprise it is still here.
we have been using 2011 to reassess our part in Real Estate.  To date, Sal is the active one and I am in the background.

Not certain if that makes us OK to stay on site here; and not certain how RE will go for us.

thank you for sending greetings and "Best Wishes" for your successes in the business.

Thanks for posting

We struggle in Virginia, too! In fact, we can water and water and we still have those ugly brown spots. Thanks for the post and the pictures tell the story.

James and David...This answer is  WAY, WAY too late> sporry!
           Broke my left ankle on 6/25/12 and unable to get down to this computer until November-ish. then could not sign into any sites at all--still do not get the reason for that,
Thanks for answering and I am sorry to be so tardy.

Right now we have our first taste of snow in our area of Michigan--so am guessing that our lawns will be fine in the Spring. Ha.

Hope that you both have had a great Christmas experience. I wish you a Happy New Year 2012.

Sincerely,
Barb

Roy.  What a neat surprise to see your comment,
 Thank you for the wishes.
Left ankle is working well--now the xray [required by BC-BS] will happen and that is ALL that I am doing.
We are no longer actively involved in RE;  Do miss the experience and mainly--the people.

Hopefully, will be allowed to continue here in the Rain.
Happy 2013 ro you and yours.
