What areas are most important to stage? #6 Outdoor Rooms

By
Home Stager

Today's Burlington buyer wants more than a patch of weeds to BBQ on.

When you decide to sell create that outdoor room for buyers.

If all you have is a balcony, make it an inviting place to sit with morning coffee or a glass of wine after work.

Make sure the patio or deck is in good shape.

Set up inviting eating and sitting areas.

Create a place for kids to play.

If your master is on the first floor, create a doorway to a private little sitting area for morning coffee.

Trim those shrubs and trees. Weed the grass and beds.

Repair the fence.

Add flowers for color.

Can't afford flowers or new plants? Mulch the beds for a clean cared for look.

Keep the lawn cut.

Show the buyer your outdoor room. If you can't afford to develop it, show them a well maintained space ready for development.

Hi Janice - Isn't it surprising when homeowners overlook the outdoor spaces at their homes? There is so much potential for creating an inviting look, and it really doesn't take all that much effort or expense to do so. Great examples here. I hit Suggest.

Our 11 months of sunshine can really play havoc with patios and decks here, as well as the furniture, making that outdoor paradise look anything but.

Jim, I guess year round use would wear things out faster. We in Ontario get about 4 to 5 months where you would want to sit outside. I guess you would be best going for more of a dessert garden.

Hi Janice,

Great post!  I like all your suggestions and agree with them 100 percent.  It's so important to extend the inside space right into the backyard space.  It creates more square footage and also alternative areas to relax and enjoy one's home!  I also hit suggest.  Great job as always Janice!!!

Hi Janice--on Maui outdoor space is considered as part of the home.  Some homeowners create spaces that are comparable to second living rooms outside.  So your suggestions are twice as important for those living in climates where the weather is always nice enough to enjoy the outdoors.

Marc, it is especially important this time of year to show off that outdoor living space.
