Homes for Sale in Historic Charlotte Communities – It’s All About The Lifestyle

Dilworth Home for Sale in Historic CharlotteIf you’re shopping for homes for sale in the convenient, yet historic areas of Charlotte, near Uptown Charlotte NC, you simply must check out  a few of our most popular communities, which offer both close proximity to the city (Uptown is within walking distance in some of the historic areas) and historic homes, also with a flare of hip!  If you’re searching for homes by lifestyle, these will surely please those hoping to find historic homes in hip communities with great walk-scores!

ELIZABETH: Historic Elizabeth is home to two of Charlotte’s major hospitals, North Carolina’s largest community college (Central Piedmont Community College) and the city’s oldest park, Independence Park.  Homes for sale in Elizabeth Charlotte NC range from brick mansions to quaint bungalows and even new townhomes and condominiums.  The neighborhood was home to department store magnate William Henry Belk, and offers old and new shops, up-scale restaurants and revitalization along Elizabeth Avenue.  This revitalization has created a trendy new Charlotte NC hot spot which attracts many visitors to the Elizabeth community.  Even more trendy restaurants as well as live entertainment venues including Carpe DiemVolarè Italiano Ristorante and more.

DILWORTH: The Dilworth community, Charlotte’s oldest streetcar suburb, is known for its craftsman-style renovated bungalows, historic homes, lovely parks, churches and leafy, sidewalk-lined streets.  East Boulevard forms the neighborhood’s spine, featuring restaurants, pubs, trendy shops and office space within easy walking distance of nearby homes.  Homes for sale in Dilworth are typically a bit pricier per sqaure foot but, new condo development along the fringes of the area offer more affordable living in an exceptional location in historic Dilworth Charlotte NC.

Historic Charlotte Homes for sale in ElizabethMIDWOOD: Midwood was established in the early 1900′s, Plaza-Midwood was sure to be Charlotte’s newest Myers Park. Midwood was designed around the trolley line that ran from, then called, ‘Downtown,’ and began with large craftsman style bungalows which lined The Plaza.  After the war, the development and home styles changed to quaint cottages that were built deeper into the neighborhood.  Now, new construction replicating the homes of the past, tends to blend in beautifully. Midwood’s popularity continues to grow as does it’s restaurants, bars and shops thrive.  Homes for sale in Midwood generally sell within a couple of months.

MYERS PARK: Myers Park in Charlotte NC emerged from a large cotton farm in 1911, when landscape architect John Nolen was hired to create a “garden suburb.”  John Nolen & others, including Earle Sumner Draper, used the winding paths, following the natural landscape to create, what many think is now Charlotte’s most beautiful community.  Most of the historic homes in Myers Park reflect the Classic style from traditional brick Georgians to English Tudor.  Homes for sale in Myers Park are in a variety of price ranges but, most are of traditional style and architecture.

SOUTHPARK: Many would not recognize SouthPark as a ‘historic’ area but, there are bits and pieces of the community which do have wonderful history to them.  Most of the historic areas with traditional style homes in the SouthPark area, are bordering Myers Park.  Even some of the new construction was built very ‘Charleston-style’ and tend to blend right into the existing community quite well.  Homes for sale in the SouthPark area are typically searched by specific neighborhood as SouthPark is a broad-reaching area with one of the best shopping malls in the two states as well as fine dining and home to several Fortune-500 companies.  As well, SouthPark is one of the State’s top live/work communities, offering residents a high walk-score, nearly that of our Uptown area.

Debe,

I still believe you to be the Queen of the Queen City.   Of course you know I am partial to my old homeplace Myers Park with all those grand old houses.  But, all of those neighborhoods are excellent with excellent restaurants and shops all close by.

You could take any one of those pictures and call it historic Nashville or Historic Franklin and it would be the same. The historic homes here have become very valuable.

I was reading an in-depth history today on he development of the 5 original Elizabeth neighborhoods, and it included mention of Myers Park, Dilworth and Plaza-Midwood as they grew up and outward from Elizabeth. You really did your homework on this Debe and I continue to marvel at where you ever find the time to put this stuff together?!?

I concur with Deb Brooks - you truly are Charlotte Royalty!
