If you are thinking about purchasing a Home in Bothell but do not know where to start, you are not alone. While buying a new home can be a very enjoyable and memorable moment in your life, if you do not avoid some of the major pitfalls that new homebuyer’s fall into you can turn your memorable experience from a positive one into a negative one.

Here are three of the main pitfalls homebuyers find themselves falling into.

Mistake 1 - Not Researching Loan Options

One of the biggest mistakes homebuyers make is going out to find a Bothell house, and then quickly closing on a mortgage while hoping and praying that it is a good choice.  Then, ten years down the road, they find out that their mortgage was not what they thought it to be.  This can easily be avoided by doing your homework ahead of time.  Go to a mortgage company and see how much you can be approved for and how much the monthly cost will be.  At that point you will immediately know if you will be able to get the home of your dreams or if you need to wait a little longer.

Mistake 2 - Not seeking Proper Representation

Another big mistake that homeowners make is not looking for proper representation.  If you plan on purchasing a home in Bothell without proper representation, even with a pre-approved loan, you may be setting yourself up.  Make sure that you get yourself an experienced real estate agent to represent you.  His job is to make sure that you get the best deal for your money.  He will also show you how to find out if there are any problems with the house and whether the buyer is charging too much for the home.  This is the only way to safely purchase a home in the Bothell area.

Mistake 3 - Not researching your Total Costs

Even with a pre-approved loan you’ll need to understand all of the expenses that are included in owning a home.  You should make sure you give yourself some financial room for repairs.

By avoiding these 3 homebuyer pitfalls you can enter into your home buying experience secure, prepared, and happy. There has never been a better time for purchasing a home in Bothell and your real estate agent can help you avoid these and other common pitfalls altogether.

These are good tips. You are right baout getting hte best loan. You can save a few thousand on the price but pay alot more if your interest rate is .5% higher than necessary.

Adrian, these are all good points of advice. When I bought my first home (many years before entering real estate) I did more research on the property and location than I did on mortgage and representation.
