This monring I burned a plastic/styrofoam plate in my microwave while cooking some bacon(Mmmmm bacon).  I have no clue why the plate reacted to the delicious bacon in this manner, but it melted the plate inside the microwave(only 2 minutes too) and the house smelled horribly!  And yes, the bacon was ruined and there was no back up bacon.  I was doubly disappointed.  Anyhow, the smell lingered and wouldnt budge, until i got some advice while searching for solutions on the internet.  I followed the instructions carefully, and got the desired results.  I bought a gallon of white vinegar from the grocery store and poured some into bowls that I placed around the house.  Next, I put some vinegar in a tupperware and boiled it in the microwave(the source) for about 15 minutes.  Then I simmered some vinegar on the stove for about 20 minutes.  After the 20 minutes was up, the house smelled of vinegar(better than burnt plastic and bacon) without any residual from the burnt plate.  Finally, to counter the vinegar smell, I lit a scented candle.  It worked so well, that when my wife came home, she said "it smells so good in here".  So, if you have a stench problem of any sort, that seems to be impossible to vanquish, try this remedy.  Hope it helps!

James - styrofoam does not go in the microwave, sillyhead!  No foil, no silverware, no styrofoam, no plastics (solo cups, etc).  Glad to hear you were able to fix the smell at least!

Hi, James. The bacon grease and any liquid heat up, and burnt through the styrofoam. I know this from experience... lol!

You can also boil water with drops of vanilla to remove the smell.
