Jacksonville FL Named 'Come Back' City for 2011 by Kiplinger.com
Kiplinger.com named Jacksonville Florida one of 11 Come Back Cities for 2011, recognizing the strengths our city has to rebound in a shaky economy.
With a population of 1,328,144 and current unemployemt rate of 10.6%, the forecast for job growth for 2011 is 2.8% - a number good enough to put it #5 on the list of 11 Come Back Cities.
According to the report, about 8.5% of Jacksonville's jobs vanished during the recession, but financial services firms, especially large banks, are hiring again. Jacksonville is headquarters for Fidelity National Financial, and Bank of America and Deutsche Bank also have a large servicing presence here. LDS, a branch of Fidelity is located on the banks of the St. Johns River downtown.
Other industries that are adding workers include hotels, health care, restaurants, and warehousing. The military has about a 10% market share of employment, and there are four major colleges and universities in Jacksonville.
