What about this potential division of the Jordan School District? Does it make any sense to you? Does it make any sense to split up a district that has the highest graduation rate among the 50 largest school districts in the country? Do we think we can improve on a graduation rate of 88.5% when the national average is 69.9% (education week report)?
Lets look at the current configuration: The existing district includes West Jordan, South Jordan, Riverton, Herriman, Bluffdale, Midvale, Cottonwood Heights, Sandy, and Draper.
If both school district creation votes pass, there will be 3 distinct districts. A. West Jordan, B. South Jordan, Riverton, Herriman, and Bluffdale. C. Midvale , Cottonwood Heights, Sandy, and Draper.
I don't know which way to vote. Now that doesn't mean I don't have a lot to say about education ,and what I want from it.( I want better education for our kids, and lower property taxes.) It's just that it's not clear to me how dividing the Jordan School District is going to make things better.
I'm going to study on it some more and would like to encourage you to do likewise.
The newsletter, Windows, sent out by the Jordan School District is a good place to start. If you got it at home, read it, if not, log in to jordan schools or look at the MORE INFORMATION section.
I'll continue to look, and if I find out anything more, about how the split will affect your childs education or your Real Estate property taxes, I'll give you a heads up.
In the meantime, I'm not the only one with something to say about education, check these out.
