The Goshen Country Fair! East Goshen Township, Chester County

By

I've updated this post from last year because I simply love this photo of my son Mike.  He's 23 now  but would you look at this little face?

East Goshen is not considered rural.  It's not considered country.  But the first week in August always bring a little of rural Chester County to East Goshen with the Goshen Country Fair!

Goshen Fair, 1990

Rides for the kids, shows and music, livestock, food, games and just about everything you've come to expect from a good old fashioned Country Fair.  And the best part is that it is a 100% volunteer organization and benefits The Goshen Fire Company.

We've always brought the kids to this fair.  Now, at 23 and 16, they are too old or too cool to visit with their parents.  Pictured here is Mike, my 23 year old at age 1 on his first pony ride!  My husband Jack and I still go, if only to pick up the best donuts around!

Click here to read a great history of Goshen Fire Company and the fair.

Don't miss it.  It runs from today, 7/30 to 8/4!

Located just off of Route 3 at Ellis Lane.

Click here for a Fairground map.

Susan, there are always nice family memories from the "fair" the smell of fried dough and horse manure mingle well at the country fair. We go to a real livestock fair...with 4H , sheep herding, tractor pulls and the like every year. This year my son will start college a week before the fair -so I guess I'll have to go without him.

Steve, I'm a city girl and the first time I went to the fair I was somewhat appalled by the smell of the animals and manure.  I've grown used to it and now I miss taking the kids there.  My oldest boy just informed me of a possible trip to Italy with a friend over thanksgiving... his first Thanksgiving not with the family.  Ugh.  They grow up and move on.

Ellie, my son was going through the albums with me while I was looking for that photo and we went down memory lane together.  sigh.  They grow up fast!

Loreena, thank you.  I love traditions as well and friends who don't look at me too closely and think I look the same as I did 21 years ago!

Ann, wasn't he a cutie?  Thanks!!

HI Susan - Well, that sounds like a lot of fun. It's great that you have photos like this to bring you back to when you took your children there. It sounds the doughnuts make it all worthwhile, even now... ;-)

You are the Sophia Loren of Chester County. I remember those horse rides when I was a kid. I felt like I was a cowboy.

Judy, the fire company sells the donuts several times a year and they are delicious!!

Robby, my heart melts every time I look at his little face.  Sigh.  And I thank you for your kind words.

Rich, I am blessed with friends who don't look at me too closely, you being one of them.  But the compliment made my night!  xxoo

Susan - The Hennepin County Fair (which includes Minneapolis, Edina, All the Burbs in the west metro is held in Hamel....a town of no more than 500.  They have a nice fairground...and it does have the smells of horses, cows, pigs and chickens.  But, being a country gal again, I enjoy that real earthy smell.

Keep doing what you are doing.....you are still a fabulous chick inside and outside!

Endre, same here! I've come to love it all though!

Robby, it does seem like yesterday.  My younger son is starting high school end of this month and my older boy, this little cherub on the horse, is going to be a senior in College!

Suzanne!  Miss you girl!  I hope all is well.

Susan,

Maybe an earned character line, but you look amazingly like the Susan of Mikes youth. Whatever you're doing...keep it up.

Gary, I looked high and can't find a photo of Max at the fair!  I know we've brought him, must have left the camera at home!

Hannah, I can't wait for grandbabies!

Rich, you alwasy say the sweetest things.  xo

Steve, you're right!  you were first!  I love the old photo albums.  At most family parties you'll find the kinds all gathered around, cousins, looking at themselves as babies!
