A Small Bandit Caught Red-Pawed In My Driveway

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Hamm Homes

I went outside to check the mail and I saw a small bandit next to my driveway.

There are quite of few of these guys hanging around my house, but I don't remember seeing this little guy.

My wife puts cat food out everyday for the homeless cats in the neighborhood.  The squirrels and birds - Oh and the cats enjoy this very much.

Today there was a baby raccoon filling his stomach with cat food.  Does that mean he will start prrrr-ing soon?

Since I only had my phone, the picture isn't great, but you get the idea.

Hi Will, what a cute little guy! I know when we moved to our current house the contractor for the seller told us there was a racoon that would hang out in the weeping willow tree. It's been two years now and I still haven't seen one in my yard. I do know that squirrels can dead fall three stories down and live to tell the tale at those squirrel soires :)

Love those raccoons!  As a child I use to look out my window late at night and watch them work together to get in our garbage cans (the old metal type).  We use to place a huge rock on them to keep them out but they would work together to push it off and then it was like hand feeding them as the popped off the lid and in they went.  My dad use to get so frustrated.  Now if we had put out a little food maybe they would have gone for that and left the cans alone.  On second thought I am sure they loved the challenge and secretly watched my dad each morning get upset.  Smart little critters!

Hi David,  I think there are more close by.

John,  I know about chows, my sheltie loves to bark when something is outside.

In doing exactly what your wife is doing, I was also introduced to raccoons eating the food as well.  Word of warning....raccoons on cat food get BIG.  But they are very appreciative and friendly.

How cute! You can make a great picture out of a cell phone picture simply by doing some post-production work in a photo editing program. Go check out Fotosketcher, Picnik, and Picasa since they are free. Here’s what I did with your picture:

Hi Cathy,  Hope you are having fun on your vacation.

Amy, one was hiding under my car when I close the garage door, he got out but after he scatch my car, knock a sign off my wall that hit the car and bend my garage door.

Hi Connie,  I bet your dad was getting upset over these guys.  I do also but my wife is a wildlife person so I go along with them hanging out in our area.

Hi Mona,  I know that they should be caught and given a shot but that will never happen.
