Good Morning Toledo August 3, 2011 Best Mexican Food in Toledo ... I love Mexican food. I admit it. It's almost an addiction. The good thing about my addiction, though is that there are so many places in Toledo to feed my addiction. Plus I'm a mighty fine cook, if I do say so myself.
Here's a list of my favorites:
Favorite Maragaritas - Loma Linda's
Favorite Tostaditas - Loma Linda's (gotta bake the jalapenos on top!)
Favorite Nachos - Mi Hacienda
Favorite Refried Beans - Mi Hacienda
Favorite Firecracker Shrimp - Amigos
Favorite Grocery - San Marcos
Favorite Fish Tacos - Ventura's
Favorite Coldest Draft Mexican Beer - Mi Hacienda (their Dos XX is so cold it turns into a beer slush when you pour it into your chilled mug!)
Favorite Decor - Mi Hacienda
Favorite Tortilla Soup - Loma Linda's, but Good Morning Holland is a close second
Favorite Breakfast Place - Good Morning Holland
With all being said, the best Mexican food I've ever had was last August in Rockwall Texas (outside of Dallas), when we went to Mexican Grocery Store and bought beef fajita meat for a pool party. It was one of the best meals I've ever had. There is pretty much nothing better than authentic fajita meat, authentic crema, and authentic chihuahua cheese. Liked it so much we bought 10# to bring back to Ohio with us. Served it last week at a get-together for my Navy son who was home on leave.
What is authentic fajita meat? Well, I'm not really sure, but here is my interpretation: if you go to a grocery store and ask for fajita meat and they point to a gray bin filled to the brim with a reddish orange liquid, peppers, onions, tomatoes, and spices ... that's a good start. Even better is when they dip their scoop into it, at the bottom they find large strips of skirt steak, extremely well-marbled with fat.
Simply throw it on the grill for a few minutes, then slice against the grain like you would a flank steak. OMG is it GOOD!
So, what is your favorite Mexican spot in Toledo? Let me know, okay?
And don't forget, see ya tomorrow for more coffee, tea, and me ...
