What are your thoughts on this matter?  We have been keeping a close eye on kijiji.com and within the past month its directory has grown with data.  Its search features are better and it is easier to navigate.  We posted an ad on it and we actually received a good amount of traffic.  Their support is also very responsive.

As for Craigslist - the site is community ran and it seems as though the Craigslist hard-core community is flag happy and even a little rude.  They are against anything that looks too commercial and will tend to flag posts that have too much HTML or images.  Its also very hard to get a hold of Craigslist support and their help desk forum is really poor with rude and un-helpful responses.  Above that they seem to be having endless problems with their image uploads and ads not showing in their directory.  Things like this will frustrated users and will force them to go elsewhere.  Don't believe us?  See for yourself on the Craiglist community help forum at http://forums.craigslist.org/?SQ=ad+not+showing+up&act=RSR&forumID=9

Will users leave craigslist for kijiji?  If kijiji can continue to populate its directory with data - buyers will come and sellers will post.  If kijiji posts have a better response and support is better then users will choose kijiji.  It seems as though these are all the things that kijiji is working towards.

We wish both of these directories lots of luck and future success but it does appear to be a battle between the two.  Wonder who will come out on top?

Here in Silicon Valley, Craigslist is the goto place for consumers and housing.  I haven't had any issues when posting in the right categories, but I try to make an effort to keep the way the posts look easy for readers who are used to going through a lot (sometimes hundreds) of CL posts a day.  When in Rome, right?

Craigslist is still king.  But you are right about other sites being more user friendly.  I wonder if Kijiji had a better name, how that would affect popularity?  I hate that name!

Also, craigslist has such an altruistic model, so people tend to want to be a part of it.  Where as Kijiji is owned by a large company, so people could be less likely to support it and want to feed its success.

Misty,

Looks like kijiji is an up and coming website for listings. It is easier to use, yet is has a long way to go before it can unseat craigslist. If craigslist's support is unresponsive, it's a sure road to losing customers and an inevitable decline.

kijiji gets about a million visitors a month and is owned by ebay i believe. It should grow soon.

craigslist is king with 25 million and a huge worldwide audience.
