No kid zone when searching for your home? I think not!
Yeah, I know I'm going against the trend here with lots of talk about "no kid zone" places. Yes, I can certainly understand finally getting that night out away from the kids only to have some screaming, ill behaved kids sitting at the table next to you.
My kids are older now, but I can remember very well the side looks I'd get..even in a "family" style restaurant when one of my boys would throw a tantrum.
When looking for homes though, to me kids can often help sell a home. After moving several times across the country, I wanted my sons to be part of the search, to see the yard, see the bedrooms so the move was a bit less stressful for them. I know it really did help with my boys.
It's not uncommon for a couple that's been on the fence to finally decide on a home after bringing the kids along to see them. Just like when you see the excitement of a buyer when they start seeing their furniture in a room, there is something so nice about seeing kids fight over which room will be theirs.
Depending on the ages, it can of course be tough to look at lots of homes in one day with your kids along..and probably best if they weren't part of the initial home searches when your in that "weeding" out stage. But once an agent and buyer have narrowed the search down, this is an excellent time to bring the kids in.
Families make a home..not the other way around. Yes, ultimately it is the adults who make the decision on which home to buy, but I've learned from experience that if the kids are old enough to know where they are moving to and are anxious about it, having them look at the homes that you've narrowed down and letting them feel like they are part of the decision really does help.
