Make sure your clients don't store wood near there home!

Winter is approaching and several people are getting ready by cutting and stacking wood for the coming year. Several years ago I learned a great lesson on where to stack your wood.

A client of mine stacked there wood in a wood shed outside of there home and that proved to be a great place to store the wood. But then the mistake was made. Every weekend for about eight or so seasons the husband would go out on a Saturday and bring in wood for the next week. He would stack it in the corner of the garage. NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, when they went to sell the house and the termite inspector came. You can only imagine. How about almost fifteen thousand worth of work. All the way into the sub-floor and up the wall to the top plate.

People keep that wood outside or it's going to cost you big down the road. Good luck and stay dry.

GREAT TIP!  I have to confess my firewood is in the garage (but not for long).

Richard, I always hesitated to take logs in before they were to be used, simply because I knew about all the other bugs that were living in them...

Richard - You offer great advice and it still amazes me how many people in Ohio store their wood inside their home in their garages, basements or in their living room or family rooms.

As a survivor of a forest fire (I grea up in the rural mountains), this is a great post. Not only will wood stacked near or inside the home attract termites, but it is also a HUGE fire hazard. Thanks for the information!
