How to Beat the Summer Heat.

summer heat

Summer is upon us and we all enjoy the warmth of the sun. The Southern states get to enjoy warmer temperatures year round. For those of us in the Northern states that experience colder temperatures in the winter, we can appreciate summer that much more because it seems to be so temporary. With the temperatures above normal across the country, it's getting tougher to find ways to beat the heat. Here are some quick suggestions. You could:

Go to the beach.
Sit in your air conditioned home.
Ride in your air conditioned car.
Swim in a backyard pool.
Ride in your convertible car.
Stay in your air conditioned office.
Go for a motorcycle ride.
Play some mud volleyball.
Enjoy a nice tall, cool drink.

What do you do to beat the summer heat?

Peter, the Olympics are always adding new sports. Maybe.......

Lisa, it's amazing how people here in MI will complain about the winter cold. Then when it gets warm, they get in their cars, close the windows and turn on the A/C. Not me. I love the heat. Give me sunshine and 85*.

Chris, this was the 23rd year for this annual tournament. It's way more fun than it looks.

Richard, remember as a young boy jumping in every puddle you saw? Well playing in the mud is just like that only ten times better. Ah, to be a kid again.

Pamela, NO FOUR LETTER WORDS  -- SNOW -- COLD --     I'm still enjoying the shorts and sandals weather.

Craig - your pictures show that you do know how to beat the heat and have lots of fun at the same time!  I have lost count but we are over 30 days of over 100 degree temps here in Rockwall, Texas.  In some dark shadow of my mind I seem to remember playing in the mud, but that is not something I can see myself doing now.  There is not a lot you can do in this heat outside - even the evenings are too hot.

Best things I can think of are:  Seeing a good movie in the heat of the day,  curling up with a good book with the AC turned down, meeting a friend after work and enjoying cool summer time drinks looking out at the patio to the lake.....hey, maybe planing in the mud might not be so bad!

Barbara, 30 days over 100*...... Beating the heat is high on your list. Sounds like your list should be tried not just all in one week but maybe all in one day.     Waiting for winter when I can write about 30 days under 32* or even the number of days when the high temperatures don't get above 10*........  I'll take the heat over the cold ANY day.
