When Does "No" Mean NO!

I know, I know, I know, so I'm old fashioned.  But when someone say, "You don't do this," I take it seriously. To me that means that they don't want that particular thing done, so you shouldn't do it.  I feel the same way when a law is passed.  The law doesn't say, " If you like this law obey it." Or, "if you feel like it on this particular day obey it."  No, it just says that you are supposed to obey the law regardless. So when they passed the "Do Not Call" list, although I may not be the brightest bulb in the bunch I understood it to mean that if a person put their name on that list they didn't want unsolicited calls.  PERIOD!

When we call expireds we are soliciting to be their agents.

We can be fined $5,000. for calling someone on the Do Not Call List. Considering our commission may be just about that much, why in the world would we take the chance of a particular person turning us in?

I was surprised to find out that most of the agents in my office didn't know that list refered to us as well as telemarketers, so I printed a copy of the rules of calling and made a copy for every agent in our office.  Not three days later I heard an agent telling one of our newbe's, "Oh it's o.k. people probably won't turn you in. I just call anyway."  Do you remember when you were a brand new agent?  For most of us money was really tight and we sure couldn't have afforded to face a fine of that amount, or any amount for that matter.  I was so shocked I couldn't speak. Now for me that's shocked.  So what did  you do, you asked. I just printed another copy of the information on calling and put it in the new agents box.

I guess my point is.....if you are going to give advice to someone make sure it does no harm and that it is accurate.  By giving wrong information you don't know the harm you might be causing.

Well I sure feel better now.  Venting is good for you :)

Till the next time I hope you all of the success you want on your plate.

Hear Hear Good advice, heard some stories where some sellers with legal representation are making a killing off Realtors that Call. You ask how well if they docuement your call they can get 5K plus court costs for each call. So there lawyer notifies you of there intent to sue. Settle for 4K or go to court and get 5K per call plus court costs. Easily 20-50K.

It is happening out there, Anyone ever hear about Clint Eastwood and the attorney that tried to sue him ? Be careful people as you can be sued for abusing the no call list.....
