Not of the computer generation, I remember big thick books, reading endless listings.  Today, I can go online, put in the specifics and Voila,  almost perfect homes show up.  My old Selectric couldn't do that.  I spent hours searching listings.  Not much has really changed, today I can plug in criteria and like magic the right home appears.   However,  I spend hours online searching for the right place to find buyers, list my properties  & market my business.  Up at 3 in the morning, searching all my social network communities.   Learning about SEO's, keywords, descriptions, etc,   There is nothing easy about real estate, no matter  what generation; whether we are an agent, appraiser, lender, etc., we earn every dollar.  If you were to plug in our earnings per hour, I'm  sure we aren't much above minimum wage.  (unless we are in a boom market) What say you?

Hi Cindy,

I remember those days well. The days of big MLS books and inbetween we had these cute little "tear sheets" to file. Wasn't that fun!

Hi Cindy, I am new to this business but have been in business before and I think it is all a lot of work but I am hoping that we hit the boom soon and it all pays off!

The road to success is never without its price.  Thank heaven there is progress every day in the technologies available to us.  Sure makes us work smarter - not harder.

I have not been a realtor that long, but whenever I talk to realtors who have been in the business for three or more decades they tell me some interesting stories. What I frankly could not believe were the stories about agents not wanting to give out their listings to people. It seems so backwards now. If I have a listing the first thing I want to do is let everyone in the world know about it so I can find a buyer for it.

Certainly technology and evolving mindsets will continue to help the real estate professional do their jobs better. I can't imagine doing business without my computer or cell phone, yet as little as fifteen years ago I don't think cell phones or even computers were that commonplace in the real estate industry.

Lynda -  In many ways it was a simpler time, and for the most part it was fun.

Roberta- Building a business is work, it is also rewarding.  As far as the next boom?????

Carol - You are so right!

Johnny - Technology has changed the way we do business, our office is everywhere we are. We can add or change listings instantly.   Missed calls can be returned a lot sooner.

Thank you all for your comments.  In this fast paced world, take time to smell the roses.
