If I can’t reach you by showing you how to save money by implementing going-green ideas, maybe I can make a dent by sharing with you how to improve the quality of your pet’s life.

Yes, pets can go green, too.

And they need it.  Actually, it is their nature to be connected to the earth.  Consumer living with its fast tempo and chemically induced food and medicines have greatly upset the natural life cycle of all animals in this country.

For this particular blog, I won’t give out any tips.  However, I will share with you all my resources on the topic.  I do not know what kind of pet you have, and I do not want to come across as though I believe one type of animal is more important or worthy than another one.

I thank Chrissy Trask and her book It’s Easy Being Green for this valuable information.

I remember reading once that the cancer rate in household pets is beginning to catch up with their owners.  Is it because they basically eat the same garbage we do?

Food for thought?

Best of luck and go Green.

I had a dog die of stomach cancer... I think it was probably the plastic toys he ate more than the food. Oh and the remote controls, the shoes, the razor blades (he had surgery to remove them), the bottle of deconngestants (hospitalized no surgery) more than the food that caused the stomach cancer.

After reading Maureen's account, I dashed to my doggie-wonders-toy box...and checked to make sure that there were no offending toys there...

I'd love to hear your personal stoires  about pets in your life.

Douglas - (or do you go by Doug?)  - good for you!  Although I have yet to have a pet die from cancer.. and good lord my life has been filled with pets...  I love that you have gone after this angle, and surprised at the low number of comments, thus far...

I don't think it takes cancer to raise the concern about whether to change our living habits to protect our furry friends... they are also affected by water quality, or lack of water... etc....

So keep up the good work!  and raise the issue of people's pets - because those that have them love them as some people do children... those that don't have kids anyway...

We go to the vet and they say, "No People Food!" We sneak them a little here and there because they look so cute. Friends and relatives come over and they sneak them a bit too...not to mention kids that do what used to be the old napkin trick, until they discovered Rover.

We as humans are becoming more spoiled by the increasing numbers that shop at Whole Foods. More expensive yes, but wow, who knew natuarl and organic foods could taste so good. Put 2 apples next to each other. You are sometimes hard put to find an Organic apple that is the size of the non-organic. No chemicals=smaller size.

Does your pet look like you do? They have published books on the subject.

So maybe think twice before buying that Armadilla!
