Can you disengage from your business?

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams LIfestyles Realty

When you go on holidays, do you disengage 100% from your business? Or, do you still check messages and emails and call the office daily? When you're with a client, do you answer your phone, check messages, post a Facebook status update, send a qucik Tweet, check your Klout score or call the office to see if there are any messages? Then, why as Realtors, do we feel the need to do this while we're on a vacation with our family, and a break from the business?

I have many friends with 9-5 jobs. I know for a fact that when they're on vacation that there's no way in h e double hockey sticks that they're thinking about work. And, there's no way in h e double hockey sticks that they're going to call into work to see if there's anything that can do! But, as Realtors, we find it difficult to switch hats and take time off the business, be it physically, emotioanlly or mentaly.

When we're with clients, we give them 100%. When we're working on our business, we give it 100%. When we're on holidays with our family, are we really giving them our 100%? Or, are we thinking of what we can do to improve our over-all business? I've taken holidays, and you've taken holidays, but have we really been there 100%?

This is the view of a sunset from my deck at our little slice of heaven on the lake. This is one of the reasons I work hard at my business and in my business...so that I can afford to take time away from my business. Physically. Yes, even I struggle with giving a holiday 100%. But, I'm working on. The best thing about this place? I have no cell service, no internet and no land line. We are cut off from the modern technologically advanced world in every way possible. And my kids HATE it! (being cut off, that is )

But, for a few weeks of the year, even though my mind has business on it, I am with my family, and they are with me. No interruptions from friends, no text message alerts, no pop-ins, just me, my family, a few good friends and life. The office wil handle that call, answer that email, set up that showing and negotiate that offer. We deserve a break today ;^)"

Hi Alex, Good for you! I believe that we all need to unplug now and then.

Alex, you are SO right!!  We do tend to "stay attached" even though many of us do try to detach a bit.  I'm gonna keep this in mind next time my hubby and I need to get away for a bit!  Thanks!

Krista - 'Unplugged' is a term each and every one of us needs to add to our vocabulary, and do it!

Paula - You're welcome, and good luck ;^)"
