The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) provides an online service to find and locate flood zone areas in the US. The flood zone areas are shown on a map which is retrieved by address, community or county. This information proves to be helpful in determining whether a specific property in the US is located in a flood zone area.

Derrick - This is a resource agents should use whether they are listing or selling a property.  We have seen from recent catastrophe how important it is to know the flood zones. For insurance purpose this is also invaluable information to have.

Jennifer -It is important. Flood zone insurance is required for properties located in flood zones. And banks verify this information before issuing commitment.

Determining whether a property is in a flood zone is of importance to sellers and buyers. Sellers need to disclose, and buyers need to obtain flood insurance.

www.floodsmart.gov is another helpful resource for Flood and Hurricane preparedness and rating information. If you do not live in a floodzone, you might be paying too much for your premium. Check out the preferred plans to see if you qualify.

Renters can purchase flood content only coverage!

I also use this as a resource, unfortunately it some times backfires on me and the buyers decide that the home isn't worth the extra $50-$100 a month for the flood insurance. But, who can blame them. There is enough to worry about in this world to have to worry about if your home is going to flood every year.

Todd - I agree, it is a good resource and I bet your buyers appreciated knowing ahead of time.
