Charlotte Real Estate Recovery Even Felt at Local Grocer - Q3 Earnings Significantly Improved

Charlotte Grocer participates in Charlotte real estate recoveryThe Harris Teeter grocery chain and thread company American & Efird, reported yesterday that despite the bad news in the stock market, Ruddick’s subsidiaries is showing significant increases in revenue.  Ruddick’s subsidiaries increased its third-quarter revenue, rising to $1.19 billion.

The $32 million profit for the quarter is up 11 percent from 2010. The 204-store Harris Teeter chain revenue increased 8% as compared to the same quarter last year, to $1.1 billion.  Sales at stores open a year or more rose 4.4 percent.

Increased sales were a result of more consumer visits to their 204 stores as well as larger average purchases and more customers buying more of the higher-margin items such as premium meats, deli cheeses and fresh or organic produce.

The Harris Teeter, headquartered in the Charlotte area, is a widely popular grocery chain, located across the entire Charlotte Metro area.  Charlotte residents thank you for your significant contribution to the Charlotte real estate recovery!

Glad to hear that there are indeed some parts of the country that are experiencing some economic recovery.  And, it seems everything effects real estate.  Hope you continue feeling positive falloff from it and that it has a ripple effect to some other parts of the country.

Hi Debe,

It all starts with people spending, locally, all that money gets used over and over again to rev up the economy....

As long as hard working honest people earn a living we can fix most of our own problem along the way.

Well, it would make sense that grocery store revenue could be up. Have you seen the price of groceries lately? I don't know what the mark up is, but I looked as some cheese that I normally buy and it was $2 more than it was about 2 months ago.

Let's hope the profits of corporate America trickle down to jobs for people.

Debe - people always have to eat but the fact that it is higher end speciality products that are driving the profits is great news for the recovery train that is headed your way.

Debe, I have never heard of this Store Chain from the sounds of it it appears to be similar to Wholefoods or Bristol Farms. I am just wondering if it has any co-relation to maybe fewer people going to restaurants and more food is cooked at home? Just wondering out loud.

Debe: Food prices are up, so that may be part of the story: howver, recovery is taking place in different places at different times.

I used to like Harris Teeter until Wegman's came to town. Haven't been to HT since.

Debe

That is good news to hear that areas are returning and the economy is turning back in some areas.
