We have all heard the old saying "Hindsight is 20/20", isn't that so very true? We have all said it to ourselves throughout our careers. Since the beginning of 2007, I have been saying it to myself quite a bit. Especially after reading these two books. Let me share my story.....
Earlier this year, I found myself personally and professionally knee deep in "BURN-OUT Mode". Last year (2006) was a record setting year for me professionally, but the other parts of my life were in "neglected" mode. With the new year 2007, I found myself running on empty. And by March 07 our wonderful "seller market" had changed, and me being a buyers agent, I began to panic about "where are all the buyers?!". Anxiety, frustration, desperation, depression, etc......sound familiar? Serious burn-out.
In the spring, I read two books that have helped me very much - professionally and personally. I want to recommend them to everyone with a need to "feed their empty tanks".
Please, take an afternoon to read "The Richest Man in Babylon" by George S. Clason. It was a BIG, giant lightbulb going off in my brain. I wish I had read this book while I was in college. If I would have implemented this rule in this book 20 years ago, I would be so much better financially. (remember hindsight is 20/20?) This book should be required reading for every college student. It's short and precise, and easy read in one day. I have a copy on my desk as part of my reminder to "follow the rule". My son is 14 now, but I will make sure he reads it and follows this rule as soon as he gets his first part-time job!
My next read was The Power of Focus, by Jack Canfield. This book was a HUGE, real kick in my poor-attitude and I recommend this one to everyone. Currently, I am working on reading this book a second time, with my husband. We both are now working to understand the power of focus on our personal goals. This is another book that I wish I would have read the first day I began my real estate career. It's NOT a real estate book either - it's a book for any working professional.
One more important note.... There is another important addition to my life that has helped me get out of the "Burn Out Mode" and it is Active Rain. I remember joining a group here on AR to inquire about coaching, and Fran Rokicki's advice made join ClubNet (thanks Fran). I am so grateful that I found a coaching program that is helping "RE-TUNE" the foundation of my business. With the changed market, I had to change my attitude and define and refine my skills. A special thanks to Buffini and Company, my coach Lori Kennedy, and ClubNet associates for helping me climb-out of my Burn Out Mode and SET goals.
I log in everyday to Active Rain. It's part of my daily routine. I appreciate help from all of the Active Rain mentors who have helped me Learn the ropes of Blogging, SEO, and Marketing my Business. This is a great network and I wanted to share "My Reference Book List" with all of you!
Make it a great day! Win the Day! Go buy yourself a book that may help you fill your empty tank!
