Right Side Up Thinking

By
Real Estate Agent with Century 21 Birchwood Realty, Inc.

I am watching the Fox panel this morning and the poll numbers they are showing still has the public blaming the Republican (72%) for the economic problem and down grading of our credit rating.  What is wrong here??  Obama is still at a 46% approval rating which I think is very high considering the Countries situation.  Instead of praising the Tea Party for trying to hold the politicians feet to the fire and force a balanced budget, they are being blamed, by the public, for standing in the way of "progress" and not being flexible.

If the Tea Party (which is not made up of all Republicans) had not forced our spending addiction to the focus, and allowed Obama to have a "Clean" bill, we would have been down graded even lower (which is still a possibility).  There is plenty of room for blame here, past and present; all the branches have preformed miserably; but as always, the buck stops at the top

I just can't believe these poll numbers this morning; it's not just the housing market that is upside down, our thinking could use a little right side up thinking too!

Lois: I just have to say that what we are witnessing is the "Socialization of America" and it is happening at frightenting speed, without the option for Americans to do anything about it until it is too late---think I am wrong??? Watch as President Obama says nothing about what has happend with being downgraded..."what does that have to do with anything???" Well, in MHO we are in so deep that the only choice right now is for the S&P to step in because they see the future and it is really, really scary!!! Don't you think it odd that the first time in 70years we get downgraded?...and the president says NOTHING??? HUH? We have gone through times like this before---or have we?? For the first time we have a President who can do almost anything he wants to do and if he is critcized, the person criticizing gets called a bigot, a racist, a right wing extremist!!! I could go on and on but I don't want to be put in the category of all the others who have been called "finger pointers". But I am pointing my finger because I still can....in my opinion, Thank God we have been downgraded--now maybe the over-spending will BEGIN to end!!

Hi Paula..If you read the comments you know there are still people who feel everything would be put to right if Obamas hands were not tied; which in my opinion means allowing tax hikes, more restrictions on businesses, and a war on the rich.  Sounds like Socialism to me.  When you come down to it I am beginning to think this 50/50 split in our country means half the people want Socialism.  Maybe they don't understand that their thinking is Socialistic, but they would vote for the premise unknowingly.  As for the spending stopping - I doubt it; Obama has his mind made up and there is no changing his course.

Things usually run themselves and don't require constant supervision. Perhaps a nudge or two and things get back on track. Now, when we need supervision, management, leadership and devoted people to help us with a crisis, we find out everyone in office is not qualified. What a wake up call to us all

Obama stepped into office in a bad situation and has simply made it worse.  2 1/2 years later and the country is worse off than it was when he stepped in.

Richie and Rob, I agree Obama came into a tough situation; he knew this coming in and boasted hope & change.  Unfortunately he didn't have the tools or practical know how to make those changes; that along with his idiology is ripping us apart. Some hard choices in the beginning when he controlled both houses could have prevented our situation.  Instead he focuses on equitable distribution and a horrendous health care program that will become a monopoly and contribute to our bankruptcy. It's time to let someone else work on our hope & change.

I get so angry sometimes when the Republicans don't stand up and defend themselves; I know it was hard while Bush was having a spending party.  They let the dems walk all over them and win the public relations war. Recently the Tea Party has been coming out fighting, only the media (except for Fox and a few radio commentators) doesn't broadcast it.  When you only hear the praises of Obama and how the Tea Party is holding him hostage, what can you expect them to think.  Thats what is crazy.

Two problems: One, the debt ceiling and the budget should be part of the same legislation, and two, the Tea Party decided to hijack a process that was routine and turn it into a disaster...an antic for which they pay at the polls.

The American people have this one correct.

Karl, without the tea party changing the conversation we would have raised taxes, to a never heard of rate, which would put us into even greater peril.  Just because something is routin doesn't mean there can't be a change in process, it's how we grow.   AND, "hijack", you love inflammatory descriptive words; I guess if the tea party was a liberal extension of the democratic party you would be using terms like "patriotic".

Raising the debt ceiling should NEVER be used as it has by the Tea Party...and what taxes are you talking about?

In stating the rationale for its downgrade, S&P wrote:

“The political brinksmanship of recent months highlights what we see as America’s governance and policymaking becoming less stable, less effective, and less predictable than what we previously believed. The statutory debt ceiling and the threat of default have become political bargaining chips in the debate over fiscal policy.”

Who continued to push the August 2nd drop dead deadline for default? I am glad you acknowledge that Obama and Geithner are pretty good at "brinkmanship" themselves.
As for taxes, do you really want to find out what taxes would be raised? You are willing to trust they won't go up when all the Presidents rhetoric is about raising taxes, and don't think it will stop at the "rich".  Once the ball starts it will roll over you and I also.

Ummm, the 'brinkmanship" described by S &P was created by the Republicans and more specifically,The Tea Party, as most Americans have surmised...after all the debt ceiling has been raised over a hundred times without a downgrade.  Why are you guys in such denial about this?

Again, which taxes would've been raised?  Or are you just speculating?

Karl, There is no opening your eyes to the real situation.  You have found an excuse (the Tea Party) rather than accept any responsibility for your parties government grabbing ambition.  Like the president, it's always someone else's fault.  As for the taxes, it doesn't matter which taxes will be raises, the issue is taxes will be raises.  I can't belief you are stuck on which rather than will.  If Obama gets elected again and has free reign to do what he wants, we will all be in for some nasty surprises, including you.

It's like my grandmother use to say " Where ignorance is bliss it is folly to be wise".

Focus - S & P gave thier reasons for the downgrade...do I really need to post them again?  And tax loopholes NEED to be closed.  How in the world can you justify the fact that hedge-fund managers, CEO's and the wealthest people in America pay at a lower tax rate than the secretaries that work for them? In case you haven't been keeping up, the back-bone of this country, the middle class, is shrinking.  Without middle class consumerism, we are all screwed.

Lets just say that you and I see the destruction of the middle class being accomplished differently.  You think conservatives & the tea party will distroy it and I think librals & progressives will.  And I think this "class warfare" crap is just that, "CRAP".

Of course you think it 'crap.'  Again, while the wealthiest of Americans have seen their net worth increase significantly over the last 10 years, the middle class has remained stagnant or has lost ground.  There has been 'class warfare' and the middle class has lost...making America weaker.

You keep blaming the wealthy, it's always the fault of the wealthiest, what about the free loaders who don't pay anything and continue to take from the tax payers who work to support them; I don't see you saying anything about them making contributions to our society. Your so focused on punishing the rich for being successful (who, by the way, create employment opportunities) you can't see how out of proportion the takers of our society are, and this group is getting bigger, expecting more, and getting it.  That may be fine with you but not me.  If you want to give your money to people who abuse the system that is your choice, but don't force me to give mine.

Business owners keep members of my family employed, if they are taxed more there will be employee cut backs.  OK, now the government has more taxes from the employer, but now my family needs help and can't contribute.  Doesn't make sense to me.   Members of our family have found, from experience, they are middle class and don't qualify for anything; if they don't make it they don't get it.  You really are talking to the wrong person when you insist your views for our society are right.  In My opinion and experience Liberals and Progressives are destroying us.

I'm not blaming the wealthy.  I simply said that the tax rates need to be more fair.
