Wearing My Name Badge & My KW Golf Shirt Produced a Listing Appointment

I was inspired to write this post after reading a post from one of my mentors and friend, Barbara Todaro.   Barbara’s featured post was Marketing Can Be Free...But You Cannot Sit in the Office All Day...Network. Well, you can say that I was doing exactly that, out in public networking, since I was wearing my causal KW golf shirt and my name tag.

Casual LookEarlier this week I stopped to eat lunch at a local What- A- Burger before I went to my next afternoon appointment. While I was eating my lunch, a gentleman came over to my table, and said, “Excuse me sir, but I noticed that you are a real estate agent, and don’t want to disturb your lunch, but I would like to ask you a couple of questions”.  I responded “have a seat, and  how may I help you”?

He stated that he wanted to sell his present home, but he didn’t know how much to sell it for. I informed him that I would be glad to give him a FREE Market Analysis for his home, and produce some comps from other homes in the neighborhood. I explained that I would also need to actually see his home to check out the area and the condition to give a more accurate value for his home. I got his name, contact information, and his home address. Then, I scheduled my first  appointment with him yesterday morning on Saturday, August 6th.

This was a very productive visit, and he is preparing his home for me to list it on the market within the next  two weeks, since he needs time for some TLC before I actually put that sign in the front yard.  Yes, I naturally informed him that we are still in a buyer’s market, and we want to take advantage of good pricing, and good First Impressions when those showings start.

One never knows who is watching you, or when you may be approached as you are out wearing your name tags, and your company’s logo on your shirts or clothing.  Being out in public is a great place to network and to get some new business too. You never know when someone may ask you for that Free Market Analysis, or they may want to purchase a home. It you want to know how much your home will sell for, see my website forYour Home’s Value. Then contact me for a listing appointment to help you sell your home in the San Antonio and surrounding areas.

Jerry,

I believe that we are having an issue with one of the servers. Some folks can access the post and others can not. We are working on fixing that server right now.

Great post!  This is so true.  I've worn my Coldwell Banker baseball cap at the neighborhood coffee cafe.  People do notice.  While enjoying a cup of coffee, I am usually on the Multiple Listing Service.  I've caught someone trying to look over my shoulder to see what I was doing.  It's free advertising.  It's all about the networking.  People don't always stop by the office during floor time looking to buy or sell a home.  Get out of the office and mingle with the crowd.  You never know who needs the services of a realtor.

Thank you for the post!

Yes, Joanne. Getting out of the office to network with the public will get you some leads and new business for sure.  Your are absolutely right about people noticing what we wear. I would encourage anyone to wear their name badges or office insignia, logos, etc. while out in public. You might strike up a conversation with a new buyer or seller.

Coming in loud and clear Jerry.  Good idea to dress up in business logowear or at least office casual with a nametag with company logo.   It can't hurt anything unless I'm trying to commit a crime.

Hi Marco. I would highly recommend it. Don't be a "Secret Agent" while you out in public. Just wearing that name badge will get you noticed.

Thanks, Brenda. It looks like I made the wrong choice yesterday to post in "Members Only". Barbara always has some great advice for us too.

Congrats Jerry!  I never wear my name tag.  In fact, I couldn't even tell you where it is.  BUT ... I'll be ordering a new one today! :-)

Yes, Lisa. I would recommend that you start wearing your name tag. People do notice it, and they will ask questions too. In fact, the only times that I was discouraged to not wear mine was a few years back in 2005 while I was learning how to do some commercial transactions. My commercial trainer taught me not to wear my name tag while we were out scouting and gathering information for our investors, since businesses were sometimes being sold before any of the employees knew what was going on.

Good job on the listing. I wear my name tag pretty much all the time I am out. Perhaps it is just a habit from all those years in the military!

Yes, Gary, We do carry our habits from those military days into our civilian service these days. It just seems so natural wearing those name tags after all those years of wearing them in the military service.
