Outside Blogs.... one of mine is kicking my WordPress blog's butt
Outside Blogs are becoming more important all the time, and they seem to be very effective in Localism posts too. Maureen McCabe has presented some very strong points for having an outside blog. I presently have one in AR, but I plan to start one in WordPress soon. I have already started to post on Trulia, since Localism has always been the target to make the those phone lines start ringing.
WordPress blogs are the best....
DiscoverColumbusOh.com is an ActiveRain Outside blog. It is my oldest ActiveRain Outside Blog.
DiscoverColumbusOH.com an ActiveRain Outside Blog had more traffic yesterday than my WordPress blog. I noticed another day earlier in the week that my Columbus Ohio real estate blog on ActiveRain (DiscoverColumbusOH.com) had more traffic than my WordPress blog. That is out of the ordinary.
Is there something wrong with my WordPress.org blog? I don't think so.
A lot of the traffic on my Columbus real estate blog (my Outside Blog on ActiveRain) is on posts from 2006 (before the WordPress.org blog was born) and early 2007...shortly after the WordPress blog, ColumbusBestBlog.com was born. Both blogs have a local event on them in 2007. I believe there is more 2011 content on my WordPress.org blog about the event but the traffic for the event is heavier on the ActiveRain Outside blog. The traffic is coming from Google. The content is not the same on the two blogs, the WordPress blog is not a real estate blog, it has real estate on it. Usually it has much more traffic than my ActiveRain Outside blogs. People are coming to both sites based on searches for a local event. I am purposely not naming that event here.
I just give Google Analytics a cursory look most days. Traffic has been down on all of my blogs for a few days, traffic is coming back on two of my three Outside Blogs, including Discover Columbus Ohio, my Columbus Ohio real estate site which is an ActiveRain Outside blog.
Does that mean that ActiveRain is better than WordPress? I do not think it does. To me it means staying with something for a long time is good. Throwing in the towel on something because it does not immediately produce traffic, leads and moving on to something else (Facebook, Google + ) and abandoning something (like ActiveRain, an ActiveRain Outside Blog) may be a mistake.
I believe you still get an Outside Blog with a RainMaker account. I use my Outside Blog(s) to talk to consumers, the general public about real estate and local events.
One of my Outside Blogs is kicking my WordPress blog's butt now.
Start a NEW Outside Blog is in your left sidebar. Start one? Stick with it?
Your experience may vary.
