This entire week was spent going the extra mile for my mom...and her ancestors. What I didn't expect is that I would walk away wanting to go again next year.
I mean why would I want to drive three hours to a difficult to find location (where they drive horse and buggies through town??) to spend three hours with people that are old and I don't know....
But it was my mom's year to host...
My husband and I created a BINGO game using the original 12 children of George and Susan Artley (who started these reunions in 1902!). Rather than B-I-N-G-O they were Margaret Emma or Julie Ida or Jacob Beeber, etc and then random numbers. And instead of calling out BINGO; you called out Artley! And if you won; you got a silverware set engraved with 110th Artley Reunion on them...(gifts from Tim and I). I haven't had that much fun in a really long time!
And because my family was hosting (mostly me) I checked everyone in and got to really meet them and talk to them. And the more I met, the more I became intrigued and interested in not only the lives of the folks back then but their lives. Who knew...that by looking back; I would be looking forward to another year with these people... I didn't think about real estate the entire day; just lived in the moment.
It brought a renewed sense of family...and watching my mom take it all in was a prize I wasn't expecting. Someone there took a picture of my mom, me and my daughter (three generations) and I can't wait till I find whoever that was and they send it to me! lol
