Sometimes, all it takes to find some perspective...

... is to just slow down.

I don't know that it was on my radar to slow down last week, but God's time seldom matches up to mine, nor do I ever recall him asking my opinion in the first place.

That said, I had recently gotten into a place where it was hard to see the forest because of the trees. This all changed when my son got sick last week as young kids will do. He went from playing at Monkey Joe's one minute to a fever of 103 in just a couple of hours. No build-up, no warning, no nothing but a sick, grumpy little man.

Needless to say, this put a cramp in my schedule, and forced me to focus on what really matters; taking care of myself so I can really take care of my family. Lately, it has really been one thing after another with a couple of friends in bad places, my dog getting cancer, work being hectic (not a bad thing by any stretch, just saying), and few other things swirling around my head. Somewhere, I missed the slow down and take a breath message out there.

Well, after a few days of forced time on the bench, I find myself much more patient, tolerant and grateful than I would otherwise be. I wish that Trey had not gotten ill, but that "Dad Hat" really does help wash everything else away.

Now, go have a good week on purpose people. I have a sneaking suspicion that I will...

John, yes all work and no play does not give you time to recharge your batteries.  Whe we have other people in our lives who depend on us, we need to be prepared at all times and that means taking time for ourselves, taking a break and regaining our focus.  Hope your son is getting better.
