I Heard a Funny Rumor That The Economy is Bad

There has been so much press lately about how bad our economy is with unemployment figures, foreclosures, decreased home values and our nation’s credit rating being downgraded.

Well let me tell you.  The economy was strong and kicking hard at the mall yesterday.

My husband and I decided to go out to lunch and run to the mall to look for some accessories for my new iPad2.  We decided we would go to the Apple store in the mall and see what cool things they had.

shoppingWhen I walked up to the entrance of the store, I froze in my tracks.  I had a sudden flashback of Black Friday and people everywhere fighting over the best deal on trinkets to put under the Christmas tree.

The entire mall was crawling with people.  We elbowed our way into the Apple store and looked around for a few minutes.  Soon I was telling my husband we needed to go because I just couldn’t take it.

We found a cool case for my iPad2 at the Colorado Luggage and Baggage store and there was even a nice salesperson there to help us.

As we left the mall, we looked at each other and said “Really?  The economy is bad???”

Well, my personal economy is doing pretty well. But we see many of our tenants struggling to pay the rent and make ends meet. Things vary wildly from group to group, and those who are doing well need to have some compassion for those who aren't.

Belinda,

The recovery is actually underway. I think today's stock market is a final bottoming out before the upward drive.

Belinda

I remember right after 9/11 when no one was shopping, no one was dining out. So many people lost their jobs and a lot of businesses closed. So the merchants BEGGED that we go out and shop and spend again to bring the economy back to normal.

So yes...shopping and spending is a way to stimulate the economy as long as we have the money to pay for it.

Keep on shopping, America!

Hi Belinda, that is great to hear and to see.  I am seeing the same thing at restaurants and etc.  People are out and about and spending their money.  Have a great evening.

Just remember that, like real estate, all economies are local. Don’t buy into the big picture.

Belinda, Those Apple stores are always jammed. Seems like everyone NEEDS the newest, latest and greatest best gadget available. We always find it amazing the crowds in that store!

It’s only the rich people who can afford to shop at an Apple store. For them the economy’s not bad. It’s the middle class that is having problems.

That's an interesting experience you had but maybe because it was the apple store, like #9 said.

Maybe it was all of those people who cashed in their stock;) HA!

It's always great to see signs of a good economy and the mall is the perfect place!
