The D.C. area is one of the top regions in the country for culture.

If you like museums, there are tons of great ones and some terrific current and upcoming exhibits.

If your taste in entertainment leans more towards live music concerts, all the great shows make a stop on the tour in the D.C. area.  Besides for New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and maybe Boston, Washington D.C. ranks as one of the top venues for live music.

Virginia, Maryland and D.C. all boast great places to see a music show.

Here are some of the upcoming concerts and venues from which to choose:

Verizon Center:  601 F Street, NW D.C.

The Police are back on tour featuring Sting, Stewart Copeland, and Andy Summers and stop in D.C on November 5th.  See this classic rock troupe.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.  Who doesn't love "The Boss"?  He comes to town on November 11 and 12th.

Van Halen tickets for November 1st are already sold out, but you may be able to find them through a ticket broker.

Music Center at Strathmore: 5301 Tuckerman Lane, North Bethesda, MD

Three Dog Night plays classic hits like "Mama Told Me (Not to Come)" and "Joy to the World" also known as the Jeremiah is a Bullfrog song.  They stop in to Bethesda on Friday, November 2nd

DAR Constitution Hall:  18th Street between C and D Streets, NW D.C.

George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic with special guest War host a "Funky Halloween Jam" on Halloween Night, October 31st at 7:30 p.m.  I saw them years ago back in college when they were P-Funk and boy do they put on a show!

Neil Young sings with a heart of gold on November 15th and 16th.  I may try to get some tickets to Neil.  Buy two tickets and get a free copy of Neil Young's latest CD.

While the summer concert season is now a memory, some great shows are on the way.

One of my close friends in your area told me about the Springsteen concert but Three Dog Night! Now that is a blast from the past.

The concert venue in the D.C. area reminds me of growing up in the early 80s. I think I would love any of those concerts and they would take me back a few decades!

Looks like I need to make a couple of trips your way, Brian.  Once for the Police, whom I missed in Phoenix, the other for Neil Young.  Shoot, I just might have to catch the original Van Halen lineup for old time's sake as well.  D.C apparently likes the nightlife and likes to boogie!

Brian - I wanted to see the Police in Dallas, but I missed their show. I was also interested in seeing Van Halen, but I have been too busy to see when they are coming.  I saw Springsteen in 1985 for the "Born in the USA" tour, which was AWESOME, I might add.  I saw Sting's first solo tour (Dream of the Blue Turtles) and that was also a terrific show.

Paul - Maybe we could go to see the Police or Van Halen together.

BRIDGET:  It seems like the most popular tours these days are the classic rock old-timers.  These guys are still hanging on and bringing in the bucks!

PAUL:  There are always some good concerts in town.  One of my friends (and martial arts instructor) is actually a local rock star and I went to see his concert the other week at a small venue.  His name is Michael Fath and I saw his Michael Fath Group -- he's an amazing guitar virtuoso.  Check him out.

JASON:  Sounds like you've seen some good shows.  I've also seen Sting in the past.  Here are some other great concerts I've attended over the years: Billy Joel/Elton John, Pink Floyd, U2, Rolling Stones, Santana (2X), Phish (12X), Tom Petty, Phil Collins, The Eagles, Pete Townsend, Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, Jethro Tull, Steve Miller Band.  Journey is playing at the RE/MAX Convention next year if I decide to attend (actually they are playing there whether I attend or not!)

Brian, DC is truly a wonderful and lively place.  If only my "X" didn't live there I would visit more often!

BRIAN:  That's some slate of concerts coming to your area.  With the amount that these established artists charge (sans Three Dog Night I would guess) you'd have to sell a couple of houses just to attend them all.  Sorry that there's no Billy Joel coming to your area.  You know what a fan I am!

Brian - I love DC and have been lucky enough to fly out the past two years for the NAR convention. Would love to see Springsteen and Neil Young there. Looking forward to Tuesday's release of Chrome Dreams II.

DIANE:  The D.C. area to me has always seemed like a "big" small town.  Everywhere I go, I tend to bump into people that I know.  More and more now that I've lived here for 12 years and working in real estate.

ADAM:  You are right about the cost of concerts these days.  I remember when I saw the Eagles on their "Hell Freezes Over" tour in 1994 and they were charging an outrageous $50 for a ticket.  These days that's considered a cheap show.  I haven't seen too many concerts lately.  Thanks for your comments.  Would you believe that tickets for Three Dog Night are going for $25-$72!

TOM:  Are you planning to come the NAR Mid-Year convention next year?  It will definitely be time for another Active Rain get-together.  I missed it this year, but have gone in years prior.  Ah, a fellow Neil Young fan.  And I remember reading on your blog that you are a diehard Steely Dan fan, right?

BILL:  Thanks for reading and commenting.  Many of my concert experiences were from when I lived up in Massachusetts andspent many a summer night at Great Woods (I understand its now called the Tweeter Center).  I also saw a few shows at the old Boston Garden.

You certainly get bigger name groups in DC than we get in Flagstaff!

We saw 3 Dog Night at the NAR Orlando convention at Universal. That was fun. The last time we went to a concert was years ago! I remember as a teen I went quite often. I don't like crowds much. Katerina

Most likely not as many as out your way...I saw Elton John, Eric Clapton, Blue Oyster Cult, Boston, Peter Frampton, Billy Joel, Steppenwolf, and many others in my younger years. I have no hearing left...therefore the reason I blog...:)

KATERINA:  I don't blame you on crowds.  The worst part of concerts is getting out of the parking lot after the show.  Thanks for your comments.
