Staying Cool in these Dog Days of Summer is not easy, but here are a few tips for staying cool.

  • Visit your community pool if you do not have a pool of your own.
  • Take an early morning walk in one of Rockwall County's many parks.
  • Hook up a sprinkler for the kids to run through - perhaps give it a run yourself!
  • Buy a small “kiddie pool” and enjoy getting splashed by your kids as they play in the water.
  • Wear loose fitting clothing made of cotton.
  • Running your wrists under cold water. The blood vessels in your wrists are close to the surface of your skin and the cooled blood will circulate through your body, cooling you down.
  • Fill a spray bottle, store it in the fridge and use it to cool off after being outside in the heat.
  • Plan outings at cool places, such as the library, movies. and take your walks at malls.
  • Keep a wet cloth on your neck (and keep your neck out of direct sunlight!)
  • Use a portable, battery powered misting fan when outside.
  • Plan outdoor activities in the early part of the day.
  • Drink lots of water.
  • Stay home & read a book or watch a good movie.
  • Go ice skating.
  • Go to an indoor video arcade - one that has covered parking.
  • Go to a museum.
  • Take the kids to an IMAX - great fun!
  • Have your home and car air conditioning system checked to assure proper cooling.
  • Remember to check on any of your elderly neighbors, friends and family.
  • Take your dog to Doggie Splash Day on August 13 at Harry Myers Dog Park.
  • Never leave your dog, or any pet, in the car....or your kids!
  • Don't forget - take your dog to Lake Ray Hubbard!
  • Search for Homes For Sale on-line - Search Homes for Sale!
  • Stay really cool - look for homes in the AC car of a Realtor, see air conditioned homes AND buy a home in Rockwall County!

We've been complaining about the hot weather in Maryland.  It's cool here when we look at your really hot days.  Good suggestions for keeping cool.

All should take time to check on elderly family members and neighbors to offer assistance during the extremely hot days.

 Life is good!

Barbara, These are good tips . I lalways woory about pets that people leave in the car when they go to 'pick up just one thing' at the store.

He wants to drive the boat, water ski. Have a life jacket for the pooch? Maine is cooler weather and we have used a lake vacation home a lot more this year though.

Will - hello!  I can't believe it either!  I know everything is supposed to be bigger in Texas, but does it have to also be hotter?  I know we did hit 110 degrees one day....not sure if it was ever over that.

Stay cool in a Realtors car and the cool homes as you are looking to purchase a house ... great way to beat the heat - buy a home!  I didn't see that one on your list.
