Born to Stage?  The 10 Question Quiz

Having a hard time deciding whether home staging is the right career for you? Take this quick survey to help you get the scoop.

Barbie Dream House

1) As a child, you gave Barbie short shrift, but spent hours rearranging her house and longing for the ability to add an extension.

2) Try as you might, you can't pass a magazine stand without picking up several shelter magazines.

3) While staying in friends' guestrooms, you mentally redesign the space instead of counting sheep.

4) You get lost for hours in stores that feature lighting fixtures, fabrics, furniture, and rugs.

5) Dinner burns while you catch the latest Candace Olsen episode on HGTV.

6) You have to administer very strong willpower in any design store, especially those having sales.

7) It causes you real physical and emotional pain to look at old vertical blinds and floral-covered sofas.

8) Your handbag weighs 20+ pounds, because it contains 2 paint decks, the latest copy of Veranda magazine, a Ballards Design catalog, a heavy duty measuring tape,
a book on Modernism, a design notebook and selection of colored pens and pencils, a digital camera and extra batteries, an iPad, and your wallet.

9) Your mind immediately starts working on redesigning every space you enter, including doctor's offices, restaurant powder rooms, and supermarkets.

10) One of the most joyful sentences you can ever hear is, "I'd like some help updating this room."

If you answered yes to the majority of these questions, you're definitely hooked!

Now, get out there and start staging, or redesigning - or just go to the library and get a little design fix!

LOL Judy.  Very funny.  I always hated Barbie.  the funny thing abt the stores you mention, I like going, but I hate spending a ton of time there.  I like to pick lickety split.

Hi Shar - I think stagers may just have a few things in common...  ;-)

With bags that heavy, you sure don't need to go to the gym!

Hi Debbie - Glad you liked it. Yeah, there's just something about Barbie, isn't there?  When I go to design stores, I get lost in the shapes and colors and textures if I'm just looking. When I'm there to buy specifics, I'm more like you - very decisive and quick.

Hi Judy--OMG, this is great.  I answered "yes" to every one but #1 (I didn't have a Barbie--but actually wanted her house more than her!).  And I'm laughing about #8, because that is so me.

hi Judy -- Love your ten signs and can relate to most of them!  Like Julie in comment #1, my parents didn't "allow" Barbie in our house, but I didn't want one anyway!  I was too busy decorating our large dog house out near the back patio  :-)

Hi Maureen - Hey, a house is a house, right? We work with what we have!  Was your client happy with the results of your decorating?!?  I can see it now: New dog bed... bigger bowls for food and water... wallpaper of dogs chasing cats...  A truly awesome project!

Judy,

I laughed so hard reading this list! It's a great check list! I think stagers are pretty amazing people and deserve a lot of respect. You are so valued. Not everyone has that talent and you make it clear, it's a gift!

Thank you for sharing the gift of who you!

Hi Valerie - There are some days when I can't figure out why I have a bad heaache, and then I realize it's from lugging all this stuff and pulling the muscle in my shoulder...  I'm working on getting a rolling bag set up with all my stuff - the list grows with every project I do.  Glad you got a chuckle out of this!  ;-)
