School districts throughout Texas are dealing with reductions in state funding by cutting back in many areas. Friendswood ISD is finding ways to reduce some services, while still maintaining an exemplary education system for the community. The district will be looking for savings opportunities in the transportation department this year.

Bus routes in Friendswood ISDBus routes in Friendswood ISD will change slightly for the 2011-2012 school year.  Some transportation services will be reduced or eliminated for some Friendswood Junior High and Friendswood High School students. No changes have been made for elementary or intermediate students.

For Friendswood Junior High students, the only change is that some walk-to-stop distances may increase for students living nearest the FJH campus in Falcon Ridge, Eagle Lakes, Sandy Lakes, and Lakes of Falcon Ridge.

For Friendswood High School students, bus service has been eliminated for students living nearest the high school in the area bounded by FM 2351, Sunset, FM 528, Chigger Creek, and the Brazoria County line. In other areas the walk-to-stop distances may increase to minimize bus mileage that is not reimbursed by the state.

The Friendswood ISD website has an interactive bus route map to help you determine specific bus route information for your location.

While everyone is having to tighten their belts in this difficult economy, Friendswood ISD remains an EXEMPLARY district with a commitment to providing an excellent education and safe environment for the children of Friendswood.

The EXEMPLARY schools in Friendswood attract many homebuyers to the community. If you are looking to buy or sell a home in Friendswood, contact ROSE KING, your local real estate expert!

Our school district will not post the bus schedule on the Internet. They are making the parent come in to get the schedule. Why?! I don't know. It's not like someone couldn't figure it out in just a couple of days if they wanted to! Good fir yours for making it easy on the parents!

I know there has to be cutbacks but we cannot risk the safety of our children. Have some fund raisers to purchase books or room supplies, cut back on ordering, whatever.....but no one can cut out bus service and if the stops are fewer that means the kids have to walk farther. This is not good. I live in the Redlands CA School District and they cut out all High School buses. Not good as some kids live quite a distance and parents leave for work at 5:00am as California is so spread out. Realizing the high school kids are almost grown they can still become victims of predators or other risks. I just do not agree with this cutback at all!

Joni - The interactive online bus route map is pretty handy!

Kristin - With a reduction in state funding for education, many districts have had to cut teachers as well as services. Friendswood hasn't had to make as many cuts as some others, fortunately.

Maggie - In spite of this reduction in bus service, Friendswood ISD is still the only traditional public school district in the Houston area to achieve an EXEMPLARY rating from TEA!

there are some bad decisions being made.  I understand that items have to be cut, but common sense should not go out the window with it.  We are having issues that they are now putting elementary children out on one of the busiest intersections and then they have to cross the street.  It is totally irresponsible!

@Kristen Hamilton some schools are buying less books or no books at all. They don't pass them out like they use to when we went to school. Now the student has to go check out a book if they feel the need to use one or if the the teacher requires it.   Correct me if I am wrong Rose.

Also Rose remind me to tell you about the sidewalk story when we next meet.
